Abstract: A study was made of the amplifying and range characteristics of a
large,class of microwave devices and the optical range of wave devices vith an
isotropic active material within the framework of the lint--ar approximation.
The peculiarity of the basic characteristics of these devices is connected
primarily with the fact t'liat amplification of electromagnetic waves propagated
a
long the axis of the devce in both directions is possible in LheL-1. Some
relations describing the c,
riaracteristics of.such wave devices are derived, and
the results of calculatinc, the mentioned properties are presente-d anti analyzed:
the transfer coefficient as a functiou of the line length and activity of the
working meditmi, the frequency-amplitude charactelistics, the load chor-acteris-
tics and the self-excitat--'cn conditions. The results can.be useful in inprov-
ing the parameters of a r=ber of devices in the iticrowav~! and optical ranpe.

(3,200 m.) at rWn-Bell in Uzbekistan are described. Inia purpose of the exper-
iments.was to investigate the angle of arrival and the energy characteristics
of interactions of pions and nucleons with light and heavy nuclei at 2 x 1011

x 10-12 ey and the mechanism of generating muons at eiiergies above 2 x 1012

(paraffin wax, carbon, and iron), a 6erenkov spectrometer of full absorption,

Joint operation of ionizing calorimeters and spark chambers is normally
difficult because of the need for hiGh voltage on the calorimeter electrodes,
combined with the time lag of the input pulse from the spark chambers, amount-
resent
ing to over 20 microseconds. This difficulty Vas avoided'in the pz
experiments by storing pulses in memory cells, with the subsequent input of
a high-voltage pulsa of about 120 kv. Operation was controlled by a master-
pulse, prior to which all parts of the equipment were kept inoperative.
Results of 203 hours of the joint operation of a ~erenlrov_ svectrometer
and ionizing calo.rim2tcr, with graphite used as the target, have been pro-T
camd so far. For analysis, showers with energy above 1-5 x B) 1.1 e-( were
selected, 1DO of them. having been observed.. The ratio of.charged to neutral
nucleons; vere determined and, f~-om. it, the fraction of chargred pions of the
total nucleus of particles. The inelastic,d~oaffieient for the

Abstracto Samples of anomalous water were studied for their content of admix-
tures which could possibly be leached out of the glass; particularly Si and Na,
after irradiation with thermal neutrons. As a preliminary experiment quartz
glass itself was examined. The Na impurities were found.to be low, and irre-
gula--Iy distributed throughout the capillary, The anomalous water samples were
compared to double distil2ed water. it was,established that the admixture
concentration was much higher in the anorm-lous samples tkmA in the double
distilled material. The contertof Si and Na was Inversely proportional to the
volume of the sample studied. This could be due to the evaporative procedures
used# the impurities being introduced fro& the surface layer ofthe capillaires,

Abstract: The Institute of Zoology, Academy of Sciences Azerbaydzhan SSIR,
conducted a study of the distribution of trombiculid mites in Western
Azerbaydzhan in 1967-68 jointly with the Azerbaydzhan Antiplague Station.
The principal host of these blood-sucking parasites in Western AzErbaydzhan
was found to be the red-tailed gerbil (Meriones arythrourus) bocallse of Lhe
large number of animals of this species. significan.ce as hosts of
trombiculid mites can also be ascribed to the Asia Minor gerbil (Meriones
tristrami), house mouse, common and social, Voles, and the~weasal. The
number of mites varied with the season.and withi climatic conditions ar
various elevations of this mountainous.area., The largestinumber of
Trombiculidae species (nine species) infested Merlones erythrourus.
Weasels. were infested exclusively with Miyatromhiltula caucasica. The
bird mice Neoschoengastia thomasi was found on forest dormice and the

Abstract: All but I out of 18 rabbits chronica,14 poisoned with sevin (5 mg/
kg) for 6 months survived. During this time their geneilal condition retuained
good and the hematological indexes were within normal limits. Alanine-
transaminase and aldolase activities following an initial increase dropped to

after functional tests (immersion of hands in cold water and subcutaneous
injection of insulin) was performed. The. excretion of norepine-phrine was
l(wer in the patients than in healthy controls, and the. daily rhythm of
catecholamine excretion was impaired, as shown by a marked decrease at
night. In response to cold, only tlie excretion of norepinephrine increased
in the patients, whereas both norepinephrine and epinephrine inLreased in
the control. The injection of insulin decreased the exc';retion of epine-
phrine, norepinephrine, dopamine, and dopq in the patients (i,e., it dc-
pressed the sympa th oad renal system) but increased that of epitlephrine
without affecting the other mediatorg.

Abstraett In an experinent involving 50 patients with vibration sictmess
and 10 healthy persons, it was four%A that the. cholinergl,c activity of the
blood of the former increased in response to stress.
When the were in a state of relative quiet, the pubjects with vibra-
tion sickness were found -to have a normal amount of acetycholine In the blood,
but a lower than normal degree of acetyleholinesterase activity. Coneequently,
their cholinergic index, which is the ratio: of acetycholinestexase activity
to acetylcholine content, was also lower t.h= normal.
Both groups of subjects were exposed to two fo=s of stresst a)
their hands were immersed in cold water for 3 minutes I ai,4 b) 0, 1-0 15 unit
of insulin per kilogr= of body weight was. injected subcataneously. No signi-
ficant changes were observed in the healthy subjects, 1i) the patients with

Abstract: This brief communication describes exDerinents performed
to investigate phenomena occurring when the cutrent in a discharEe
in helium is modulated by frequencies in the range between a lower
limit, at which frequency the electrons pass to the walls as a
result of ambipolar diffuCion, and an upper limit -..,-hich is the fre-
quency of formation of the electron distribution function according
to energy. The apparatus for the experiments consisted of a cylin-
drical discharge tube with a heated cathode, the tube being 700
long with an inner diameter of 28 mm. On the tube ayis at dis-
tances of 60 and 135 mm from the anode are two probes set at right
angles to the axis. A block diagram of the tubo and the rest of
the equipment is eiven. Curves axle plottedfor the longitudinal
electric field intensity as a function of the frequency, the elec-
tron distribution function according to energy, land the computed
and experimentally measured electron distribution functions plotted

dom processes which may be categorized as adaptive, havZng the! property of

Abstract: An attempt was made to develop concrete characteristics stipulating
similarity between induced potentials in the cerebral visual and Ynotor cores
of rabbits registered during the early stages of de-'envive conditioned reflex
elaboration, The coefficient of cross-correlation, prosentation of potr-n-
tials as a superposition of transient oscillations and factor analysis were
used. It was found that the coefficient of.cross-correlation increased,
reached a maximum and then fell with a concomitant decrease in rotor reac-
tions, This is shown to be due to'the convergence of f.-equency and Phase of
responses in the theta region. These results are said to shvu that iLivanov's
concepts on the special role of theta-rhythm synchronization in stimulation
transmission may be extended to cortical induced potentil.-as.

Abstract: Extension of the theory of an elastic-creep hody of Maslov-Aru-,p_,nyan
for high temperatures when the measure of the creep and the elasticity modulus
are highly dependent on temperature is discussed. The experimental results of
V. A. Kharlamov concerning the creep of concrete at high temperatures are
described and the creep kernel is constructed. Relationships between stress
and deformation are constructed considering high temperatures in the instan-
taneous deformation modulus and the creep deformation are drx-ived by assuming
the creep is known as a function of age,;temperature, jind stress. Also derived
are relationships between lengthening and forces and curvatux,es and mointnts.
The problem of the stress state of a rod with fastene&ends that is under the
effect of time-variable temperature is discussed in detail. The "Razdan-3"
computer was used in the calculations.

Abstract: Injection of rats with molybdiinum (1) (0.025 -to 600 mg/kg) increased
serum glycoproteins at doses of 0.025 to 20 mg/kg, less so at 50 to 200 mg/kg;
further increases in the dose of I and duration of its administration lowered
the glycoprotein level. The results were similar with zespect to the effect
of I on sialic and neuraminic acids and on ceruloplasmin. and lysozyme activi-
ties. It was concluded that I causes a state of dystonia in individual
elements of the autonomic system, as was previously shown in the case of the
acetylcholine-cholinesterase system and pyrocatechins.
