"Calculation of Plasmoid Motion in an Axially Symmetric, Spat.,ally Periodic, Alternating Magnetic Field" Leningrad, Zhurnal Tiekhnicheskoy Fiziki, Vol. 40, No. 3, liar 70, pp 466-474 Abstract: The motion of a plasmoid in a magnetic field produced by a system of coils with mutually opposing currents is considered. The analysis is conducted within the framework of the integral model of a small bunch, considering the ef- fects of dissipation and the gass kinetic pressure. The paper is ar. extension of experimental work in which stabilization and focusing of a plasma treDving in a spatially periodic, alternating, axially syimaetria magnetic field was first ol)- served. The equation3 of motion wera integrated on a computer for different parameters of the plasmoid. The following conclusions were drawn fTom tile con- putations: 1. The initial velocity of the plasmoid is the basic parameter ef fecting the passage of plasmoids through the system. 2. I'ar lar;,,c initial velo- cities there exists an interval of values of the ratio 1714 ialder. which p3saage of the plasmoid through the system is observed. As the inj~tial velocity increases, 1/2 USSR KALKYKOV, A. A., et al, Zhurnal tekhnicheskoy fiziki, Vol. 40, No. 3, Mar 70, pp 466-474 the NIH3 interval broadens. 3. Upon reflection of the plasmoids tLe plasma is captured in the magnetic cell with subsequent emission thro.mgh the rognetic slit. nts are An- .4. When bunches with good conductivity pass through the system, ctirre t there is duced in them which fully compensate the applied magnetic field so t1w:. no field inside the plasmoid. S. When plasmoids with poor t;onduaLtivity pass through the system, a shift in phase occurs between the magnet'e Lfield and the induced current. In this case the magnetic-field penetratep the plasmoid. 6. Plasmoids with poor conductivity undergo a strong retardation in "he systsm which is proportional to the phase shift between the magnetic field and the in- duced current. Preliminary analysis shows -that these results are in good agree- ment with experimental data of the authors but a more complete comparison will require more detailed experiments, This work is currently being conducted and the results will be published. It was shown from electronographic analysis that the structural chaWs of a film during Its reduction and ion migration can cause some roLrnwpment of the crystal lattice from the higher oxide to the. lower. , From a thermodyrmLa-ic viewpoint, Vw extraction of oxygen from the oxide film leads to ~the formation of a supersaturated solid solution of the metal in the oxidos Fm the zole- cular viewpoint, the mechanism of reduction.takes into account the action of the electrical field within the film and the reduction, aechanism is just the opposite of the oxidation process* Two figureep nine b4bliographic riterences. 2/2 38 - USSR UDC: None- h PLAKHOV, A. 11. Rezp. Mezhved. Sb. , No 7, 1972, pp 47-51 Abstract: The paper gives some results of a study of radiation defects induced by exposure to gamma quanta on the surface and in the sp-ace ch-aire region in germanium. Thin specimens of K-type (p 113, 50 Q-cm) and P-type (P = 30 Q- cm) were studied. The results of the ret3earch showed azi appreciable increase in the rate of surface recombination, esp4~.cially in the region of positive potentials, with a new recombinat*lon level on curves for surface recombination rate,as a function of inftial potential in this region. Specimens with an elevated oxygen content shvwed an increase ir the density of fast shielding states throughout the potential ranpre, -whereas oxygen-free Epecimens showed practically no charg ,c! in thi- ccncentration of such states. The initial potential was shifted touard the N-side after ex- 112 68 LySFjjKO, V. S. et al., Poluprovbdn. Tekh. iMikroolektron. Resp. 11L1,ezhveji. The stability of the new centers was shown by the fact that the surface characteris~tics of irradiated stecimens were not altered by exposure to the-atuosphere for two months. Very brief treatment in hydrogen peroxide (about 11 s) almost :completely restored the surface potential to the values observed in specimens before irradiation. This indicates that the potential displacement observed is due to alter- ation of the chemical structure of the surface oxide phase. 212 059 UNCLASSt FIEO'~: I 110'ROCrSSING, OAlrE--18SEP70 ITLE--OPTICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF VACUUM CONOENSAt;ES IN THE 0.22 TO L.3 MU T .,,,,-SPECTRAL RANGE -U- ~AUTHOR_LYSENKO* V.S. :COUNTRY OF INFO--USSR f.SCURCE-ZH.
