other day for 25-74 days with a 100 rad/min tIOCtl7on beiain (20 I'llev) diuct-ad at
the right eye socket, through the brain to the left ear', in order to study
brain morphological changes that may occur through ele-c-tron Ovrapy on humans.
Brain tissue from sacrificed animals waa fixed, stained,, sectioned, and ob-
served trader a light microscope. Wo rabbits were samtfice4 1. month after
termination of treatment (total doses 6,000 and 12,800 1.4id) &u~ to acute ex-
ternal minifestations. Inflarmation and infiltration of brain matter and
meninges by polyblasts and plasma cells was detected. Ixtenially the reinalning
rabbits nanifested only minor, localized depilation and t3kin 1)~gmewutation. A
rabbit receiving 6,400 rad total dotse suffered only Zlloais of the right Optic

Abstract: The right hind leg of 10 rabbits wws frai~.turcd and the
propordin and total protein levels in lymph arid blood of th4,
injured extremity was determined 12 to IF, hou,os late~r. At this
time the amount of properdin in blood scrun and l!rniph (frol: the
right popliteal node) was below normal. hhilq, tot.aL protein
decreased in the scrun, (mainly because of Ios:l; of albumins), i-,
increased in the lymph. The fact that the Ivrloperdin level ~n
lymph and blood did not rise, despite the incrvasc Ln total pro-
tain in lymph, indicates that properdin was rotained in the
tissues of the injured extremity.
