Translation: Male rats underwent inhalation inoculation with butadiene (I:

mina~-tion was made of the amount of Hb, erythrocyt-es and leukocytes in the

of the whole blood, as well as prothrombin activity of the blood, the amount
of coproporphyrin in the urine, vitamin C, Bl and B? content of the urine,
blood and some organs. The administration of I plus Il induced a lowering of
the quantity of leukocytes and their phagocytic activity, depression of ChE
activity, a significant lowering of endogenic liver respiration, an increase
in the total sulfhydryl-group content of the blood, elevated excretion of
coproporphyrin in the urine, an increase in the amount of ascorbic acid in

Metal Structures Operating in the Prebreakdown Hode"
Leningrad, Fizika i Tekhnika Poluprovodnikov, Vol 6, Va 3, 1972, pp 575-576
Abstract: A stu~lly was previously made of the phenomenon of accumulation of
free carriers under the effect of pulse and stationary illumination in metal-
dielectric-seniiconductor-tlicl(-ictric-Lietal structui7es in wbich there were no
continuous currents through the (lieler-tric layers [14. F. Kovtonyuk, et al.,
FTP, No 5, 1174, 1971). A study has ncro bceh made of the. case where signifi.-
cant leakage current.,; flow through the dielecaic layers and accumulation of
carriers does not occur in practice. Storape of the short light. pulse action
was detected. On inclusion of the voltage pulse in the absence of illumination
of the sample, a capaciti've current pulse is observed on the leadinf, edge of
the pulse. Titis capacitive currert pul:ic Is characterfttic of i;tructurcs witli-

reaches a constant value (segment 11). The length of segment I is less the
greater the voltage pulse amplitude. The magnitude of the saturation current
in segment II approaches saturation with an increase in voltage. Under the
effect of a light pulse, a photoconductivity signal is observed in segruent. II.
Current oscillograms and the length of segment T and magnitude of the current
of segment 11 as functions of the voltage pulse araplitude are presented.
Structures were manufactured so that the dielectric resistince was com-
mensurate with the semiconductor resistance, and it was discovered thar the
sensitivity of such structures is no lower than in good metal-dielectric-semi-
conductor-dielectric-metal structures operating in the pulse accumulation mode.
The data indicate that the prebreakdown operating mode of the investigated
structures can be used in creating dynamic storage elements and also cortain
types of photoreceivers.

Abstract: An experimental study was made of the changes of the normal Hall
constant Ro and the anomalous Hall constant Rs; tile internal saturation induc-
tion Bs; the specific resistance jOin the ordering of alloys of quasi-binary
profiles N13Mn-Ni3Fe and N13Mn-Ni3CO; and the concentration relationships R.,
Rs, F, and Bs of tile indicated alloys in an ordered state. On the basis of
an analysis of the experimental results, conclusions are drawn tnaL tile decrease
of Ro and ~in ordering of the alloy tl13f-In and in alloying of the ordered alloy
N13Mn with small (-/5 atomic %) quantities of iron is brought about essentially
by a decrease in the contribution of holes to the transfer phenomena and a de-
crease in the density of the states in the 3d-bands of the indicated allov-, in
the vicinity of the Fermi level. The experimental data are in satisfactory
agreement with the character of the density curve of 3d states that had been
computed in a cited reference for ordered N13Mn and N13Fe alloys.

"Turbulent Boundary Layer in the Initial Sector of a Pipe with Rough Walls"
Zhurnal Prikladnoy Mekhaniki i Tekhnicheskoy Fiziki, No 5, 1371, pp 109-116.
ABSTRACT: The development of the turbulent boundary laver in the initial
sector of a pipe with rough walls is studied within the frameivork of boundary
layer theory. It is demonstrated that consideration of roughness can be
performed by introducing a function to the "standard" rule of friction, con-
sidering this factor. The experimental study was performed on an experimental
pipe sector with natural roughness, the relative value of which is 10-3. 1110
range of Reynolds numbers was 5.1-10"-3.4-105.

Translation: The results of emerimental studies on vibraticns of foundation-

cussed. The reason for initiating the study was to dE~termine the extretrie
vibrations of foundations of pillars and building structures. The reason for
these vibrations was irrigation of the area which brou,,21it on a drop in the
rigidity of the foundation. It is noted that the joining of the pillar foun-

The experimental data obtained require careful processing. 0. 1". Luzhin.

pp 1286-1292
Abstract: A study was made of the statistical characteristics of fading re-
quired both for practical applications using meteor scattering of radio waves
and.for theoretical constructions. An analysis was perfortied on experir;iental
data on fading radio echoes from meteor trails measured oa 800 and 1,600 km
paths at frequencies of 40.3, 42.3, 57.4 and 44 negahertz and radar data at
frequencies of 34 and 608 megahertz. Tlae experi-ientpl statistical cliaractcr-
istics of the echoes are presented in the various sta-,es of development of
fading. The quantitative characteris tics agree well with fading theory based
on turbulence principles.
During the fornation of fadin.-, there is a tendency toward an increase
in the probability of appearance of fading of a meteor radic, echo of given
duration witii an increase in the radiation, frequency used. The number of
fading echoes decreases with an increase in depth of fading, The fading dis-
tribution as a function of the magnitude of the first perio'ds is as follot:s:

at a frequency of 42.3 megahertz the mean period is -0.27 seconds, and at
a frequency of 57.7 me-g-ahertz it is -0.22 seconds. For all the radio echoes,
the spectral density increases with a decrease in frequency.

A study was m.adc of the horizontal structural function at
altitudes of W-100 km in the scale ran;v of 5-Z"' km with
tes~cct to radio reflections from meteor trail- bta-1--d on
a radar with an angle gage. ThL maximum hurizontal ~cjlle of
the turbulence was 30-40 km; the anisotropy oi the structural
function vaA established relative to the mean wind direction.
One of the most important properties of the radiometcor method of
studying atmospheric movements by comparison with other methods is the poosibil-
it~ of investigating large-scale turbulence. In this paper a study is made of
the properties of the spatial structural function D(r) ior the medium and

Translation of Abstract: The authors investigated vacuum-melted Mo with
0.7-10% W. Ingots were processed by extrusion through an eyelet. The
microhardness of as-cast and as-deformed alloys was determined. The mechani-
cal properties of alloys (short-term fracture) were determined at 500, 600,
700, and 1000'. The ridnimum m.'crohardness for cast alloys is obtained with
0.7-2.0% W. To judge by microhardness, all melts after extrusion were more
homogeneous than as-cast. Softening of the investigated alloys occurs in
the 700-10000 range. The optimum combination of strength and plastic prop-
erties at room temperature is observed in the alloy with 2% W. Three

Translation: Multi-cross piece grids of the "stocking" t~-pe for electron tubes are
produced from srmll-diameter molybdenum. wire, direct determination of the durabil-
ity characteristics of which is very difficult. In addition, in the process of
ranufacture of the grid cross piece and winding of the wire, various technological
operations (heat treatment, deposition of coating, aad soldcrin(-) aP2 underL-_one,
which effect the character of the finished grids. In order to evaluate the qual-
ity of grids of the "stocking" type, a method is proposed for checking them on a
micromachine by bending between two mandrels. A description is given of the
behavior of the grid during the recommended test method., and the character of the
deformation of the individual components for construction of the Grid is analyzed,
Formulas are derived for detemining the breakin.- force relative to one cross
piece of the load corresponding to the start of breakdown of the grid and which
is recorded at the testing machine. In the Novosibirsk Electrovacuum Institute,

Kiev, Metallofizika, No 32, 1970, pp 113-118
Translation: The general kinetics of the ~ - a transformation of the high-
purity OVCh-000 (99.9995%) tin on specimens of various forms, i.e., massive
in the form of small cubes, plates, and wire, was investigated by the method
of hydrostatic weighing.
The overall rate of the polymorphic a transformation adheres to Avrami's
equation X = I - exp (- Atk),
where X is the share of the transformed volume; A and k are the constants.
At the same tim-e, k depending on the form of specimens assures various
values: 2.3-2.7 for massive specimens, 1.5-2 for spec-imens in the form of
plates, and I for the specimens in the form of wire of a diameter less than
0.8 mm.

TIwislationt The effect of the type of crystal lattice on the parameters of
volume and bourAary diffusion in metals of the iron gratrp and their alloys
Is examined on the basis of the data arailable in the literature. It is
shown that the difference between the robility in ::~_- and 'e- iron is much
greater than among the mobility in close-packed cubic nodiflea-tior-s of,,~- -1ron,
nickel, and -d"-cobalt durJmg the exLrrapolation of 'their values to the same
temperature. In 6eneralp this conclusion also extends to the diffusion of
other elements In these metals. The type of crystal lattice has a marked
effect on the w--ameters of volume self-diffusion and has a weak. effect on
the nobility of atoms along grain boundaries.

"Effect of Ultrasound on Cathodic Processes on Iron and Nickel"
Moscowt Zashchita Metallovo Vol 8, No 3, MaY-Jun 72, pp, 296-298
Abstracts The authors studied the effect of an ultrasonic field on Cathodic
reactions under aeration condit'lons and in an inert gas atmosphere, specifical-
ly the behavior Gf iron (0.08 percent C) and nickal (Np-2) in in. H?sO4 at 300.
There was found to be a shift in the corrosion potential of both metals and a
significant increase in coriosion losses in the aerated acid with the appli-
cation of the ultrasonic field, Ibis ir, due mainly to an increase in the
acid ionization rate as a result of inten3ive stirring of the solution.
Under the action of ultrasound the self-dissolution rate of iron in the
presence of air is about double that of nickel.

"An Instrument for integral Hygienic Assessment of Noises"
Moscow, Gig-4yena Truda i Professional'nyye Zabolevaniva, No 7, 1973, pp 48-50
Abstract: A noise exposure meter developed by the authors (Inventor's Cer-
tificate No 290305) can be used to register noise produced within a large
area or that experienced by a single worker over long periods of time without
attendance. It employs a mercury capillary coulometer-integrator as the
memory. An amplifier need not be used at noise levels above 100 db. Tescs
with the meter showed that it has a sensitivity of 10.juamps at 100 db and
can be used continuouslv at this level. for 680 hours. Cumulative noise is
read out in arbitrary units or in ttw/hr/cM2. The integral noise assessment
criterion provided by this instrument would be of value in public health
studies when combined with the noise characteristics utilized traditionally
(intensity, spectrum).

"Investigation of Irage Quality in the DFFS-12 and DFS-32 Spectrometers"
Leningrad, Optiko-Mekhanicheskaya Promyshlennost', No 11, Nov 70, pp 20-23
Abstract: A new method is pro-posed for calculating the "instrument function"
of monochromators in the case of long thin slits. The instrument function
of a z-onoc-hromator is the change in the radiant flux which passes through
the output slit as it moves over the width of the monochrorlatic, image of
the input slit. The instrument function calcu-1ated for DFS-12 (DFS-32)
spectrometers by the proposed procedure agrees satisfactorily with the
experimentally determined function, both with respect to the shape of the
curve and its width.
