TITLE: Effect of compressor characteristics on turbojet
engines

TEXT: The article discusses the performance characteristics
of turbojet engines with centrifugal and axial-flow compressors,
with particular emphasis on the specific thrust and specific engine
weight. Data presented by the author are based on theoretical prin-
ciples and on the analysis of statistical data of a small number of
turbojet engines in operation up to the middle of the past decade,
since that was the period in which the superiority of axial-flow
compressors was more or less firmly established. The results pre-
sented should, therefore, be considered only as general information
on the subject. The comparison between the two types of compres-
sors, made on the basis of the air-handling capacity per unit fron-

tal area, shows indisputably that axial turbojet engines can reach
a maximum value of 7.000 kg/Sq /m, while engines with centrifugal
compressors can attain only a Maximum of 3.000 kg/sq /m. Data on
the specific thrust, which is the commom criterion of jet engine
performance, also favor axial-flow compressors Engines with such
compressors have attained a maximum thrust of ~O kg/kg/sec while
centrifugal turbojet engines have a specific thrust of only 60 kg/
kg/sec; a thrust of 80 kg/kg/sec is exceptional. Data on the
specific weight do not actually show the greater efficiency of axial-
flow compressors, since both, the axial and centrifugal turbojet
engines have a specific weight ranging from 0.2 to 0.5 kg/kg. In
the range of smaller thrusts, centrifugal turbojet engines have
greater efficiency while in the range from 1.000 to 3.000 kg both
types of engines have practically the same performance characteri-
stics. In view of their considerable superiority, the last word on
axial-flow compressors in turbojet engines has not yet been said,

the observatory started photographic observations of the clouds.

Abstract: Tests were made of trichomonades survival time in
prepucial washings, which were all carried out on the
same bulls afflicted with trichomonosis, namely, with

ABSTRACT: The author des-oribes a raw method for more 6ffOO-tive control of the
global surfaces on- tapered rollars, shown In Figure 1, with control
gauges. It is suitable for verificetion of the geometrical shape of
the tapered surface. Cont-ols are. possible at monochromatic light as
well as at day light, however, only highly finished surfaces can be
measured. This methed, sugge2ted by V.(rzkunukf Vstav pro V&liva Loliska
(Research instilmate for Tapered Roller Bearings) in Brno, was tested by
17stav pro Vftkam Optiky a Jemn-S Mechaniky (Institute for Research of
Optics and Precision Me-chanics) in Pr'erov. The optica'.. 3pherical gauges,
used in the tapered roller bearing industry, were prod-qaed in the "Neopta"
People"s Enterprise in Pr~arov. Control of a tapered roller with an
optical gauge is illustrated In Figure 2. Method of controlling a
taper&d roller with a ga-uga too large is shown in Figure 3 and with a
