The study was undertaken in order to detemine the factors underlying a decline in the-Lake Aral bream population in certain years. The stomach contents of 491 bream specimens were analyzed and classified according to iteight and kind of food eaten at a given stage of growth. It is noted that the young brewn feeds chiehy on zooplankton and Chirenomi- dae. It is concluded that a declir4 in the bream population in Lake Aral in low water years stems from a deterioration of the spawning ground and is not connected with feeding conditions. Metallurgiya, 1958, Nr 1, pp 247 - 251 (USSR) ABSTRACTt The electrolyte in the production of aluminum is a melt of the system Na 3AlF6-AlF 3-Al203with a small amount of CaF. The electric conductivity of this electrolyte is considerably ihiluenced-by-the carbon impurities. A formation of aluminum carbide-on the-6urface of the carbon electrodes-probably effects a decrease-in the electric conductivity. By the addition of calcium fluoride to the electrolyte melt the effeot of the carbon particles is removed. Aluminum fluoride is also used for the same purpose. The authors discussed the posi- tive influenceexerted by aluminum fluoride and calcium fluoride in-the process of aluminum electrolysis.
