Sofia, Doklady Bolgarskoy Akedemii Nauk, Vol 19, No 3, 1966, pp 249-251
Abstracts JF'rench article,7 The authors described earlier paralytic forms
in mice which were caused by infection with the virus Coxanchie A It and
ECHO 6. A comporJeon was made with experimental infection with
poliovirus types land 11. The present article describes (using several
photographs) two types of crystalline inclusions found in nerve cello.
This observation was made possible by cytologic and cytoche-nical methods
used by the authors and these are described in considerable detail. There
are 3 Bulgarian, I Soviet, and 2 Western references. (Manuscript received,

SOURCE: Bulgarska akademiya na naukita. Doklady, v. 18, no, 1, 1965, 85-88

ABSTRACT: J. T. Stamp at sl.,(Yet. Res., 1950, 251-4254) were the first to
.iaolate the sheep abortion virus. F. R. Giroud at al. (Aced. Vat. Fr., 23,
;lgXj ~'o 8, 353-401) found elementary corpuscles in mice infected peritoneally
land killed on the 15-th day, While H. Par6r (Vat. Res. 21, 1960, Ito 811 243-
1250) end D. Sarationu at al. (Stud. cerc. inframicrobial..XII, 1961, 1, 9,1;-103',
.infoc"d mice intrecorebrally and succeeded In establishing elementary
corDuacloo. Nevertheless, the problem of findirg a convenient laboratory
model for experimental infection remained of considerable interest because of
'the pathogenic significance of the virus and the subsequent damage :caused b
'its infection. Consequently, the authors attempted sensitivity toots to the'
sheep abortion Virunwith newborn albino mice one and three days old.
They used the local Tselapitoe strain and found that newborn mice are
sensitive to intraperitoneal infection; infected animals died five days
after the infection.' The elementary corDusalas.of the virus are to be found
,in the liver of th-3 infected b7nimala. The pathohistological chanres occurring
1n the - newborn mice infected with the virus consist of a ppneral
Als,olacedent of the elements of the reticuloond9thelial system resulting in
treat swelling and proliferation of tho endotheliA of the vessels of the
separate organs, the reticuloandotholial calls of the liver and spleen
'in Darticular. Peculiar giant calls are found in the liver and the spleen.
In addition to the reticuloendothelial changes, there are lympho-laucocytic
infiltrates observed in the organs which are of a diffuse character in some
'iplacest although in most instances they show a focal perivasal position.

plaamorrhagia and extravasates. The pathohistological changes in the
cerebrum ari -represented by microoncephalomalatic sections in some

ABSTRACT: The diploid radiation g7nogenesis of Salmo irideus Gibb. has been
investigated. While D. D. Romashov et al. claimed they obtained diploid radiation
Mogenesis with bone fish whose sperm was irradiated with 1009000 to 1,000,000 r,
(seep eagep Biofizika, 5, 1960p Kc. 4; Symp. Radiatsionnaya genatika Lff~diation

dose only half as strong (50,000 R) while in the case with sperm irradiated with

These differences raise a question about the effect of spermatozoa irradiated with
high doses on the development of the embryo. It seems possible that with the -
different species the strong doses affect differently the result of radiation
gynogenesis. The paper was submitted by Academician Do Yordonov, 26 August 1964.

ABSTRACT: Anglish article7 In the courso of earlier atudioa the authors
established chonges in the correlation of sexes under the affect of variable
high and low temperature (Dokl. BAIT., 17, 1964t No lo). A number of
'investigations have boon initiated to establish the affect of the age
differences of sex cells on the for-nation of sex. R. Khortvig, ~IoWo idoi

increase in the percentage of the Tale specimens with the aging of the eggs
and upon their fertilization with normal spermatozoa. S. B. Zhegalov (UsDe

silvery-black foxes the female specimens under four years unfailingly give

fodder variety of field-grown peas which involvod gamia rays and rapid neutrons.
Irradiation was carried out in the IRT-1000 reactor near Sofia with a pure gan-ma fie:
of 3 roentgens per second after stopping the reactor, and with a mixed field involvij
a prodominant percentage of fast neutrons at 5 roentgens per second during reactor
operation. The soods were irradiated in sealed polyethylene bags, the doses being

'Tuba Growth Following Pollen Irradiation in Tradaacantial
Sofia, Doklady Bolgarskoy Akedemli Nauk, Vol 19s, No 7, 1966, pp 649-651
Abstracts Anglish article,7 No previous studies in Tradescantia of the pollen
tube growth and of the development of the generative nuclei from the stigma to
the embryo see following pollen irradiation are known. Consequently, the
author followed the growth of pollen tubes and the changes of the male
chromatin from the stigma to the embryo sac following pollen irradiation with
X- and gamma ray doses of 1,000 to 5,000.000 r. Flowers of diploid and
tatraploid material of Tradescantia paludosa were pollinated with irradiated
pollen and fixed in Carnoy from 1 hour to 10 days after pollination (14 fixations
per variant). The paper gives an exhaustive description of the observed events.
It shows among others that with higher doses the four half-chromatids can be
separated from every chromosome and that the breakage can be interpreted as
the consequence of half-chromatid breakage and interchan as There are

Sofia, Doklady Bolrarakoy AkDdemii Mauk, Vol 19, No 3, 1966, pp 237-240
Abstracts fiEnglish orticlol D. Shindarov and Z. Savov (Compt. rand. Aced.
bulg. Sci., 17, 1964, No 10, 981) reported earlier on the cultivation of the
sheep abortion virus in tissue culture of cold-blooded animals (tortniae
kidney api'thelium). The present paper contains the results of studies on the
reproduction of the sheep abortion virus in the tissue culture of the lungs
of the same animal. Results of the experiments, described in considerable
detail. indicate that 1) the sheep abortion virus can multiply itself -in a
primary monolayer tissue culture of the lungs of a cold-blooded animal
(Testude graeca); 2) virus multiplication in - tissue culture CRuses a
cytopathic affect primarily of a focal character; 3) the maximum in the virus
hccumulation during its multiplication in the culture is about the 6th to
7th day after inoculation. There are 3 Bulgarian and I Western reference.

1957, 3 (92-96)
t.'x= . OTO-RUNO-LARING.
Deafness is a rare complication of mumps. The mechanism of development of deaf-
ness following this disease, caused by an ultravirus, is not yet clear. Transitory
deafness accounts for the reversibility of such changes as: lymphocytary infiltra-
tion, haemorrhages in the per~-.eural space of the cochlear nerve and others. The
author considers that deafness caused by either this disease or by the influenza
virus is attributed exclusively to the destruction, or the total degeneration of the
vascular villi. As there are no other sources for the endolymph formation in the
cochlea, their destruction impairs the nutrition of the cells. Granulations formed
in the endolymph completely destroy the organ of Corti. (XI, 20)

ABSTRACT: The author sums up the report he reai on 25 March 1958 in
the Hydrogeolopical Section of the Society- 'tie finds that
some of the criticism is justified, but that some of it is
not. According to him, the correct version of the organic
theory is the theory of micro-oil. Ile puts forward some
arguments to confirm this theory. According to him, the
concentration of micro-oil forms the natural reser-7oirs of
the oil. This concentration occurs when definite thermo-
dynamical conditions are favorable. In the light of late5t
data, the formation of primary micro-oil is a normal process.
It is the unavoidable result of the formation of sediments
in the biosphere. V~ese sediments contain the organic mat-
ter, the lipoid components of which concur in the formation
of bitumoids. The evolution of bitumoids in the process
