the systems CSCI-LICI-H20 and CsCl-NaCl-H20. Authors wanted to clear up the
interrelationship between thece properties and to determine whether the law of
additivity applies to a composite solution. Authors were also interested in
a
verifying, on the basis of new experimental material, if certain classical rel tion-~_
ships known for binary solutions could be applied to ternary mixtures. Pycna-
metrio~method was used to determine the density. Adiabatic calorimetry was used

Title Chemical Means of Controlling the Beet Weevil.

Abstract The leading measures for chemical control of beet weevils are
the treatment of seeds, spraying of beets, and introduction of
insecticides into the soil. The toxicity of BHC to seed sprouts
depends on the amount of BHC in the pericarp. ^./ 0.05% of BHC
(by weight of seeds) is dissolved in an aqueous extract of beet
seeds. The cotyledons are toxic 6-8 days, while the plant
utilizes the tuber nutrient substances. With the beginning
of plant nutrition by soil solutions through the root system,
the toxicity disappears. It is possible to increase the toxic
substance quantity in the plant by using BHC enriched by

Y- isomer (2-3% of seed weight of Y- isomer). DDT suspensions are
just as effective as DDT oil emulsions, but do not produce
sprout burns. A suspension of an 85% DDT casein pasts is
10-12% more effective than a DDT oil emulsion and does not
produce sprout burns. Most effective against gray weevil of
the new chlororganic insecticides is chlorindan: a double-
triple spraying of beets is necessary, expending 1-2 kg/
hectare of technical chlorindan. The introduction into rows
at seeding time of 6-8 kg/hectare of a 25% dusting by BHC
lowers injurious effect of weevils the following year and
increases its destruction by muscardin.

Abstract: against the weevil: 1) the use of 70-80% of Y-
Hexachlorane dust as most effective In the treat-
ment of seeds prior to planting; the treatment of
the seeds with a solution of HCCH by the aerosol
method; 2) spraying of the crops three times with
emulsions of DDT, chlorothane, chlorophene, nhlor-
indane and aldrine, and also spraying by aroplane
when 2-3 leaves appear with a 10% DDT solution
in diesel fuel (15 lit/hectare); concentrated
suspensions of DDT are also very effective. HCCH
emulsions were lower in effectiveness than the
forementioned preparations; DDT emulsion (4.5%)
or chlorothane and chlorophene (1.2%) in 135 lit/
hectare is to be used In an above ground spraying
with economical nozzles; 3) the use of HCCH dust
in a mixture with mineral fertilizers in the
planting beds at the time of sowing to lessen

ABSTRACT: Silicon n-i-p-structure detectors are used extensively for the registration and
spectroscopy of nuclear particles with extended path length. It had been shown ear-liar that
during the displacement of a light spot along a line cutting through the n-p germanium
transition, the photo ernf (or photo current) depend In a definite way'on the position of the
spot. This effect has been used to measure the lifetimes (diffusion lengths) of the non-
equilibrated carriers within the p- and ri-regions of germanium. The present palxir
develops a method for the study of thd siructure and the determination of the width of the
sensitive region from the photocurrent 'variations as a function of the light spot position.

Abstract : A method of detection of interstitial substance in subcu-
taneous connective tissue is described. Unfixated pelli-
cles, taken from mice and rats just killed by ether, are
spread on microscope slides and are immersed for 15 minu-
tes in a solution of fixating substance, then rinsed with
water and dyed with 0.1% toluidine blue for 24 hours*
Positive results were obtained when the fixating substan-
ces used were 0.25% phosphotungstic acid, 0.25% phospho-
molybdic acid and 0.25-1% tannic acid.

Butyrylperazin (Randolectil)"

Abstract: Results of treatment of psychoses with the phenothia-
zine defivatives Lyogen and Randolectil are reported. It was
found that Tkyogen had a slightly euphorizing effect. Randoleotil
was well tolerated by a patient who was alletgic to a great'number
of psychopharmacological agents. In the authors' experience, if
an obvious therapeutic effect,was not produced by a neuroleptic
drug after treatment for 30 days, further treatment with this drug
served no useful purpose. A selective, individual response of
patients to treatment with psychotropic drugs wa3 observed, which
did not depend on the nature of the disease, but solely on the
chemical constitution of the drug. Russian and English summLries.

By placing on the skin surface a drop of brilliant green stain and noting its rate of
lh-sappvarance 'y Ko-.,hrvniYov - the rate of desquarnation
of the horny layer of the skin was .4tudied. Parallel with observations on the
rapidity of disappearance of stained scales in various inflammatory dt-rmatoseti,
observations were also made on desimaination pr-oc,,.qs of clinically normal skin.
It was found that the ratf- of peeling of normal skin is subject to fluctuation depen-
dent con a variety of conditions. The most rapid desquarnation was seen on the skin
of the face, chest and back, and the slowest on the feet. Separation of stained horny
scales takes place with greatest rapidity in young persons. The clinically visible
scaliness does not necessarily correspond to the speed of the desquarnation. For
instance, the rate of peeling in ichthyosis and keratodermia is only 1/5-1/10 that of
normal skin. In the progressive stage of psoriasis and in acute eczema an increas-
cd rate of desquarnation is noted also on the apparently healthy skin surfaces. The
desquarnative process is retarded on the affected side In unilateral lesions of the

Abstract: The offocts of tetracycline and chlortotraqyclinc on the mitotic
activity and karyotype of loulkocytes frcm, human peripheral blood cultivated
in vitro and blastic transfcrmation of cultivated lymphocytes wore studied.
Division of the 'leukocytos was stimulated with phaseolosazin (a type P
hanagglutinin from a Bulgarian varietyy of Phaseolus vulgaris). The anti-
biotics had an inhibiting effect on the mitotic activity of-the loul-ocytes.
Chaanres in the ~aryotypo undor the influence of the antibiotics occurred in
32-40% of the cultivated cells that wore treated. Tho chromoso-mal abnrra-
tions produced were both of the numoral and structural type. 7ho predominant
structural changos wore breakaros of chromatids and iho principal chanpos
with respect to the number of chromosomes trisomics. The offect of anti-
biotics on the mitosis of lymphocytes is of importance from the standpoint
of dovolopmont of immunity. Figures, graph, table, 24 references (1 Bulgarian,
