geologic structures of the central parts of the Russian Platform,
southwestern Turkmenia, the West Siberian Plains, the eastern part
of the Siberian Platform, and the Minusinsk basins; electrical
frequency sounding, neutron logging, gamma spectrometry techniques,
and the standard equipment and installations of the geophysical

-TEXT.- The induced polarization phenomenon is considered as a qua-
sistatic process, describable by Laplace's equation. Electric di-
poles, arising within a polarizing body under the action of the
field current, are presumed to be the sources of' the induced po-
larization's emf. When calculating theoretical curves, a chanp is
made 'from the volume distribut.ion of secondary dipoles to the sur-
face distribution of charges. The main quantity studied in induced
.polarization vertical electric sounding is the apparent polariza-
bility iapp. Lapp is calculated on the basis of the formula given
-for its magnitude (which -is correct when the polarizability values

ABSTRETt Analysis has shomn that by using a type of z~gMatiq a it is
possible to determine local changes In resistivity with depth. This is the es-
sence of magnetic-variation sounding. Magnetic variations with periods of 0 5

form of geomagnetic variations in the region northwest of Lake Baikal, but toward
the southwest it contributed as much as 5% of the variation. Apparent re3isti,
ity for this region was found to decrease with increase In period (within the
range from 0.5 to 3 hours); i.s., the resistivity decreased with increase in
depth of penetration of the field. Two types of curves were obtained: one with
high apparent resistivity northwost of th,3 Baikal. be-sin, and anothlr with low
apparent resistivity southeast of the basin. This indicates Increased g'Rothermal

Qw is the apparent resistivity from a method of frequency probing, and ReQW is the
real part off-
Qw. The function ReQo is considered as the sum of elementary tra-pezoids
ARe Qd, and the corresponding trapezoidal fr-equency chnractariatics,Qv are evaluated.
By using a table of single transient processes, the curves of frequency probing are
transformed into stimulated electromagnetic field curves. The study shows that the
method of transformation is well suited to the construction of theoretical and experi-

TITLEt Complexometric Determination of Tetraethyl Leal -in
Ethylated Benzines.
PERIODICAL: Zavodskaya laboratoriya, 1960, Vol. 26, ~o.,10, pp. 1097-1101
TEXT: The authors studied the possibility of a complexometric determina-
tion of tetraethyl lead in ethylated benzines without previous separation
of the lead halide compound (contrary to recommendations of rOCT(GOST)
63-52 and 5337-55, and Refs. 1-4). They destroyed the organic lead com-
pounds dissolved in benzine by means of bromine dissolved in M 4' It was
found that - in contrast to inorganic lead compounds - the resulting
slightly soluble lead salts were easily soluble in diisobutylene as well
as in methyl and ethyl alcohol. In the exchange reactions of bromine
with diisobutylene or primary alcohols, hydrogen bromide is formed which
favors the decomposition of the organic lead compound and its passage into
the solution. After short boiling of the resulting solution with alkali,

the color change of the indicator at the point of equivalence in the
titration of lead with Trilon B (in the presence of eriochrome black T at
PH = 10) is just as distinct as in the titration of aqueous solutions of
inorganic lead compounds (Ref- 4). As filtration and extraction are not
necessary, the entire determination can be made in one flask with minimum
time expenditure (10-15 min) and minimum consumption of reagents. The
method su ested was tested on various specimens of ethylated benzine of
the type 9-66 (A-66) (see Table)~ The standard method (raT63-52,
GOST 63-52) was used for control. Finally, the authors describe the course
of analysis, and give a formula for calculating the content of tetraethyl
lead in benzine (in g/kg). There are 1 table and 4 references: 2 Soviet
and 2 German.

ABSTRACT: A patent'has been issued for an airfield installation
for continuous deceleration of airplanes'~(see Fig. I of the Enclo-
sure). The installation consists of a combination of sets of braking
drums and guiding pulleys. A mechanism composed of mobile stands
with rubber shock absorbers is used to provide a smooth increase of
braking effort on the cable and a quick return of the entire instal-
lation to its initial ztate.

ABSTRACT: The author analyzes the baryon-lepton veak interaction on the basia Of the
hypothesis that there exists an imtermediate boson possessing baryon and lepton
charges. This hypothesis implies a nwber of interactions with atutral lepton cur-
rentsp with coupling constant satisfying the single condition
Gee G~eve - GPA QV11VA - G-*.
The corresponding generalization of the octed theory of N. Cabibbo (Mys. Rev. Latt.
v- 10P 531P 1063) is obtained under simple assumptions carcerning the unitary proper-
ties of the barycm,-boson. Since the scalar baryon-boson has been prolmed as an al-
ternative to the Intermediate vector beson, and since the lower limit of the baryon-
boson mass-Le at present estimated to be much higher than for the vector-boson mass
(6o Gey according to i. Baheali (Phys. Rev. v. 136,, B1%7, 1964)), the author con-

ciders only those consequences of the possible exigtenice of the baryon-boson, which
are conserved in the local limit. They are ftlly covered by the definite rules for
the composition of the 4-fermion logranglan, an expression for which is derived.
This leads to an extended variant of the Cabibbo theorys wh'ah includes &1so severml
interactions with neutral lepton currents, and vhose coupling constants satisfy re-
lation (1). The relation between this result and data obtained from neutrino experi-
ments is discussed. It is concluded that verification of the inequalities G QrV
< G? and G OV < G? would decisively indicate the existence of some me;h;2 SM e;&
sponsible Wor thk interaction of only charged currents, P= wmamla the charged
vector boson. Author thanks . A. Iftrkov and L. B. Ckun' for valuable discussions.

TITLE: One possibility of using the Pauli-Villars regularization
x,.~;RIODICAL: Zhurnal eksperimentallnoy i teore*icheskoy fiziki, v- 43,

TEXT: The Pauli-Villars regularization is recommended for renormalizing
U
'.he vector boson interactions in the theory of the complex vector field.
Pield quantization, with the Lorentz condition taken intd account, leads
to 'second-order interactions of the vector bosons; when the Lorentz
condition is not taken into account, it will lead to~unphysical zero-
spin particles. This problem is solved by employing the Pauli-Villars
re6ularization with the longitudinal part of the vector field used as the
compensating field. The moat important English-language reference is:
