Cattle exposed to light for B-10 hours gave fatter milk with a higher protein content than those being under the influence of light for 24 hours, though the milk yield of the former decreased by 2-3 ',% Moreover, it has been established that the cow's reaction to light is dependent on fodder and age. Under t~e same feeding ccn- ditions, the fat content with old and young cows only in- creases by V10 - 2/10 %, while cows not belonging to either category have a fat increase of about 11 %. Therefore, it is recommended to switch on blue lamps of 50-75 watt at night Card 1/2 besides the ordinary lamps. The equipment designed by the Mekhanobr Institute, and built and installed at the "Krasnyy vyborzhets" plant, is capable of hand- ling 8-9 t of charge per shift. Operation thereof made is pos- sible to reduce the losses of Cu with the slags from 1.7 to 0.6%, and this is not even the limit attainable. The light frac- tion of the air separation process contains a considerable amount of ZnO dust. YO. Z. 1. COT~rer--Sepexation Card 1/1 2. 'I"netmatic sys-t-cm-Perforrance USTINOV, D.V. It is designed to teach officers how tp cope with some typical problems of radiation and chemical contamination: to detTr- mine the contaminatediareas;the exposure of troops; the intensity of radiation; propagation of primary and secondary radiation clouds; and estimating the safe time for taking off gas masks. r, The stand consists of a topographic map and signal lights indicating a certain radiational environment,as set by the instructor, and a control panel with switches, dials, and an "answer" button. The trainee uses the switches to indicate his estimate of the environment on three types of scaLes: graduated in hundreds, tens, and singles. A schematic of the stand is givea. TITLE: The equalization of space cosmic triangulation-in the system of rectangular goocontrio coordinates SOURCEj Geodeziya i kartografiya, no- 5, 1964, 3-16 TOPIC TAGS: space coordinate, cosmic triangulation, geocentric coordinate system, spherical trigonometry, artificial satellite, orbital control, i~.rbital parameter ABSTRACT: The authors developed a space triangulation system based upon a geocentric rectangular coordinate system. This system presents a model for solving satellite location, based upon known observations from observation stations whose coordinates are known in the three-dimensional rectangular reference. Prior work in defining the system was cited (I. Do Zhongolovich. Sputniki Zemli J. geodesiya. Astrpnomicheskiy zhurnal, ch. XXXVIII 'vy*p. 1, 1961, and Do Ya. 5hche(;olev. Byulleten' stantsiy opticheskogo, nablyudeniya ISZ, vy-*p. 1, 1962). Observation stations are Tiumerically indexed, and satellite and observation station positions are projected on imaginary coordinate planes to yield equations for siriultaneous solution of unknown angles or coordinates. Further equations resolve 'he observed Card 1/2 ACCE-SSION NH: AP4038948 data into equations and parameters describing- the planes of orbit and C:iving directed distances from observation station to satellite. Error formulae are pre- cented for both satellite and observation station. The method of "Olooing dircc- tions" was modeled mathematically, and parallel systems for simultaneous solution of unknowns were presented along with error formulae and formulae for correcting loca- tions. Additional formulae accounted for systematic errors in the timing of observations from stations. Orig. art. haas 41 equations and 3 figures. N. 7,7,57, ORG: none TtTLE: Method and equipment for data transmission over a simplex. telegraph channel SOURCE: Elektroavyazl. no. 9, 1965, 50-58 TOPIC TAGS: data transmission, communication channel ABSTRACT: A method is suggested for enhancing the fidelity of information trans- mitted over a simplex telegraph channel and intended for feeding into a computer or other automatic device. In addition to 5-element character combinations that carry useful information, these signals are transmitted: start-stop signe.19, an error- detecting symbol combination, and a 5-signal time-interval combination which ensures the time required for forming an ARQ signal at the receiver end whenever error is detected. In the latter case, a feedback signal breaks the channel which serves as an RQ signal (for the transmitting end). These provisloas materially cut 1/2 UDC: 621.391.1 -L 11658-66 NR, AP6000791 0 down the rate of transmission (from 400 to 133 characters per min for a 50-baud system); however, this lose of speed iv claimed to be off act by the higher fidelity. Check symbols formed along Hamming-code rules are suggested fo:r prctecting the information combinations. Such a code permits detecting 2" - 2'" etrors out of 2"-1 where n Is the total number of symbols, m, is the number of information symbols, and n-m is the number of check symbols (in the above example, 992 errors out of 1023 will be detected; of 31 nondetectable, 18 are quadruple, 8 sextuple, and 5 octuple errors). The probability of occurrence of nondetectable orrors in evaluated., Correcting abilities of the above code, an optimal Slepy-an's code, and a "two out of three" code are compared. Some parts of the above system were verifie experimentally. Orig. art. has: 4 figures, I I formulas, and 4 tables. The increased extent of work with the edition of topographic maps of large scale requires a further perfection of manufacturing processes. The method of specification (clas- sification) of the negatives described by I. Ye. Aleshin is applied in abbreviated way in some cartographical printing- -offices. This method cannot be applied in Sverdlovsk, since maps of the scale of 1 1 10 000 are essentially manufactured here, and since the preliminary works for thoir manufacture show certain characteristic features. It is 3hown by means of a concrete example why this as thod cannot be tp plied here and the method applied in Sverdlovsk is described. The latter Card 1/2 is essentially based on the applicatioi of the method of se- Abbreviated Specified Retouching of Negatives 6-1-11/16 lective dyeing. Since 1956 the responsibility of the vork6rs of the Plailt for production quality has been increased. The technical checkin& department has been abolished, and all work is now beirgohecked. by the foremen. In the form preparation department a policy was adopted at the end of 1958 to hand the products of the beat workers over to further production without a previous checking of their quality by the foremen. Soon the production of most workers was dispatched without checks. The foremen are called upon to check those products Card 1/1 only of whose quality the worker himself is not sure. 133-9-19/23 AUTHOR: U.stinov, G. Yaand Melamud, G.S., Engineers. A table is given listing the strength of fibers of different materials which have been achieved in recent years. 7ho data shows that the strength of fibers or whiskers is considerably greater than the strength of ' the massive materials. For example, for iron the strength of the Whiskers is more than 50 times greater than that of the massive sample. The article lists the following requirements for successful production of this type of materials 1) there must be no phase transformations between the components in the operating temperature zone; 2) the fibers must be well wetted by the matrix to assure good transfer of strength from one ACC NRg AT,6031~439 fiber to another and a small porosity of the composition; 3) the fibers and the matrix should not react chemically with each other and should have a minimum mutual solubility; 4) the coefficients of thermal expansion of the fibers and the matrix should be oloseo Orig. art* hass 4 figures and 4 tables. It is concerned with vortex formation near the edge of a semi-infinite plate in the case where the complex potential w1 is of the form: 1/2 1/2 wl(z, t) = klt z (1.1) where z is the complex variable in the plane of flow, t is the time and /2 ki is a constant which has the dimensions of vT1 . The flow given by Eq(1.1) is un table because of the presence of an infinite transverse pressure gradigzk% at the potnt z - 0 - For this reason, a vortex line y is formed, the free end of which tWiBtB rou4A forming % 49jral, Tho total flow Field will be a Cardl/2 sum Of W and 0 aom&jqx potential w. of the vortex SOV/24-58-9-?0/31 .On the Notion of an Ideal Incompressible Liquid Around a Semi- infinite Plate Taking into Account Vortex Formation. system. The problem is solved on the following assumptionst a) the vortex line y consists of two parts, nam ly, a core 2~j which is given by Eq (1.4) obtained by Rott (Ref and the remaining part Y - YJ is in the form of a part of a circle; b) the vortex line Y induces at z - 0 a velocity as a result of which the vortex line is stretched out a3ld the vor"Wex density is reduced near z = 0. Mar-tin (Canad. J. Math, 1953, Vol. 5, and earlier). It in proved that the flinction remains constant on a strong shock wave (an on a strong density shock in the case o~ plane flow). The obtained transformation makes it possible to obtain for one- dimensional isentropic motion new exact solutions, lay starting from the known exact solutions of the equations of motion. It Is also shown that one-dimensional flowr, of an ideal gas with equation of state p = pf(t) and one-dimensional adiabatic flow of' a gas, for which p pf(-r), are equivalent (t = time, -r = stream functicn). It in 1, shown that if I,, = s -1, m and n are arbitrary, and v z- 1, then the general solution of the system that serves as the basis of the theory of one-Winensional adiabatic self-aiinilar motionn of the system (L. 1.
