A review of 43 cases. Perforation was observed in 3 patients and haernorrhages
in 3; 4 patients had previously been operated on. There was an ulcer In the duo-
denum in 42 instances and in the stomach in 3; a peptic ulcer of thk anastomogid
was revealed in 2 patients who had been operated on in the past. The clinical pilo-
lure principles of treatment and remote results of surgical therapy are presented.

Abstract: rhythm. Injection of a pyrogenic agent in the
femoral artery produced a biphasic rise in tem-
perature. injection of the pyrogenib agent in
the kidney was followed initially by a 40 drop
and a decrease of H potentials. With the rise
of TO within 30-60 minutes there followed an in-
crease of potential and an appearance of slow
waves. In the whole series of three experi-
ments the final decrease of the TO was followed
by a decrease of the amplitude of the potentials,
increase in their rhythm. This is attributed
to the development of an inhibitor state. The
author considers the increase of the amplitude
and the appearance of slow waves in the F. as

EEG changes of the cortex were in the opposite
direction of those in the H, which may be ex-
plained by inductive relations between the
cortex and subcortex in fevor. The dovelopmont
of fever is conditioned by stimulation of the
hypothalamic part of the thermoregulating cen-
ter.

A13STRACT: The authors report on a study designed to eliminate residual cooling stresses,
which result in a rejection rate of up to 50% due to warping In machining. Inversely extruded
and pierced hollow cylinders (wall thickness 32.5-50.5 mm, outside diameter 591-855 mm,
height 156-823 mm, weight 37 to 180 kg), manufactured in serial production from homogenized-.
ingots of alloy AK4-1, were hardeaed (45 min. in a niter bath at 628 � 5C, quenched 2 min.
in lukewarm or 5 min. in boiling water) and aged 10 hrs. at 190C, then tested to aetermine
effects of quenching in boiling water on mechanical properties, miorostructure and warping.
Effects of aging temperature were evaluated In a separate series, where the latter was varied

The paper deals with the manufacture of electrodes for spot and seem velding
vhich is said to be videly used in the Saviet machine-building industry.
The following characteristics required of electrodes are listed: 1) good
electrical conductivity 2) good thermal conductivity 3) good mechanical prop-
erties at elevated temperatures (Heat resistance) 4) ease of manufactures and
'low cost. A description is given of the composition and the preparation of
a, copper-base alloy for electrodes. The electrodes are then cast in permanent
molds or by the centrifugal method. Various electrode alloys have been prepared
by the members of the Institute of Nonferrous Metallurgy and Gold imeni Kalenin
under H. V. Zakharov. Soviet presonalities mentioned are G. "'. Shamarin, foreman,

ABSTRACT: A composition of a universal flux for refining and
modification of aluminum-silicon alloys, in special
Al-4 and Al-5 is given. It consists of natrium fluo-
ride, natrium, chlorine, potassium chlorine and cryo-
lite. The percentual composition depends on the mel-
ting temperature. The salts are molten in the electro-
furnace as described, and mixed with the molten mass
of metal in a molten stage. The necessary quantity is
093 - 0,5 c~ of the alloy to be refined.

ABSTRACT: Although previous studies have demonstrated -the unsuitability of SiO as
a molding material for casong refractory metals and alloys, most binders used in
inves tment-pa t tern castinflcontain SiO and radical solution of this problem would

be the use of stlica-free binders with chemical properties analogous or close to
those of the refractory materials (oxides). Ethylailicate-type silicones meet
this need but they are too scarce and expensive. Two of the authors (Ya. 1. Shkley-
nik and 1. S. Matusevich. Author's Certificate [Patentl no. 162299 of 25 Apr 1963),
have previously established that saturated aqueous solutions of nitrate salts'can,
following their thermal or chemical decomposition, be used as binders for the pro-
paratLon of silick-ireat molds. In this connection, the authors describe laboratory

experiments with the construction of molds based on the use of aluminum nitrate
as che silics-free binder, with the setting of the six being a result of the ex-
change reaction between the aqueous solution of nitrate *&It and oxide:

Sieve-scrooned metallurgical megnesite and chamotte were used as the fillers. On
subsequent firing at 950'C the resulting aluminum hydroxide sad.magnesium attrati

The molds were shaped by hand,?n wood models, dried for 2-3 hr at 300-400*C,-hosted
to 950% and filled with C13L manganese steel at 1650% or with L114 &teol at 17500C.
Findings: No signs of scorching could be observed on the molds but so1A parts of
their surface displayed bead-like projections *hich were traced to bubbles of air -
escaping from their outface; this is a minor technical problem that can be ironed
out by a sore efficiesi preparation of the sizo The results confirmed that solutions
of nitrate salts and primarily of alualmoo nitrate my be used as binders for molding
