Hardening 371M St"l Parts in Hot Media The investigation cz which this artiqle is base& made it p*91ble to establish optiptLm conditions for fuse&-Alka3i heat treatzent'of threaded machine parts made of 37KhS.steel. The advantoges' of this method bf har6ning are demon. strated. This method has already been pat ifto practice at the Urals]RR.-car PlAnt., where a mechimAzed.line for isothermal bright hardening of articles made of 37KhS steel has been set up. Sagaredze, V. S. Prqp~rties of G13 Manganese Steel as De- termined by Chemical CoWsition and Heat'Treatment As a result of the sathor's investigations: (1) 03~tim= conditions for beat treating parts~made of G13L steel were established (2) a method for quality control was proposed. (3) the effect of various elsynts on the properties of this steel was detezmine , and (4) a tdble of microstructures was developed Card 3b .4 Muerience of a Plant (Cont.) 355 for detexmining and controlling the quality of heat treatment. Kotellnikova, R. 1. Hydrogeff Exbrittlement In Syringe and Ways of Preventing it 76 The author investigates hydrogen embrittlement caused by pickling and electro- galvanizing. She states that in the first came embrittlement can be pre. vented by using "W" additive consisting of a foaming agent and a solvent in the piqkling solution. In the second case it can be eLWnsted loy temper- ing at 150-2000 C. Card 4/5 Experience of a Plaat (Cont.) 355 Bocharov, S. P.; Balbashava, N. M. Abstract : Experiments were made in the kolkhozes of Uzbekistan in 1953 to test the efficiency of crosagrafting the low yielding Rovogruzinskiy lemon trees with the hiSh yield- ing Chinese lemon Neyerle)o The best method turned out to be grafting in the bark (with nearly 100% viability),, the best time was from the beginning of vegetation to 10-15 June; the yield of Novogruzinskiy lemon trees in whose bark Chinese lemon graftings were inoculated was considerably increased. TOPIC TAGS: gamma LrTadiation, irradiation effect, graft ccopolymer, butyl rubber, poiymethy~_,metha-.rylate ABSTRACT: Graft copOlymers of butyl rubber (copolymer of Isobutylene with 2.0-3.0% isoprene)- with metby:l methacrylate were synthesized radiochemically by simultaneously irradiating a mixtuy4i of the polyTmr and monomer in the absence of atmospheric oxygen with Co60 gamma rays, After extraction of the polymethyl methacrylate homopolymer (PMMA),the degree of grafting and yield of the graft copolymer decreased with increas- ing irradiation dose for a polymer-to-monomer ratio of 1:1 and 1:0.6, and also in the solvent dichlaroethar,e. The copolymers formed had a variable composition; their form- ation was confirmed ly turbidimetric titration. A study of' the kineti cs __ of Swelling_ -of- the -copolymers -in - various- -liquids - showi~d-that -the -nature of -t h-es-ide chain in the C0,j 1/2 2 ACC NR, AP6008693 graft copolymer causcs a decrease in the affinity of the s3stem obtained for some li- quids and an increase for others. A study of the vI3cQc;ity of solutions of the graft copolymers in benzeno at 300C revealed that as the content of graft PMMA in the copo-. lymer diminishes (with rising Irradiation dose), the intriusic viscosity of the solu-" tions decreases. This is attributed not only to/h drop in the proportion of graft d P rca ecules ' f the initial PMMA in the copolymer but also to the Srikdation of mac ol 0 polymer under the inPluence of gama radiation. In the spectrum of copolymers with meffiacrylate and metky1methacrylate, an intensive band appeared at. 1730 cm-1 which corresponds to valence Abrations of a carbonyl group. At the low firequency end of the spectrum characteristic absorption bonds were obtained at 746 and 837 enrl for the copolym oir with mothacrylate and at 746 and 82 6 CM-1 Card ACCESSION NR: AR4 01671)2 for the copolymer of metiVilmethacrylate. In the spectrum of the copolymer with methacryl-I amide, the intensity of abcorption increased In the area of 3300 cm-:1, the band valence iribrations of C-H shifted from 2900 to the area of 2870 cm-1 and bands appeared at 1663 cm 1, (vibration of C = 0 In the group 0 -- C(M11)), 1600 cm.!l (deformation vibrations of NH2) C .1 ry am ,and 1745cm-1 (deformation vibrations of the ff~ group in the meth, c I Ide)- For the copolymer with acrylonitrile, a characteristic band at 2250 cm-1 appeared (valence vibrations of the nitrile group). The bands at 700 and 748 cm-1, 1603 cm-1 (vibrations of the double tbands of an aromatic nucleus) and 1500 cm-1 (vibrations of the benzene ring) were the most reliable for the Identification of the copolymer with styrene. The Infrared spectra of the studied copolymers can ba used for: the qualitative evaluation of the degree of grafting. A. Tue copolymers were prepared by irradiat g mixtures of the. pure monomere both in bulk and in various solvents from a Co source. The study has confirmed the formation of copolymers. From the results 2.t was assumed that in radiation-induced copolymerization of acrylonitrile and 2-methylfuran in solu- tion, solvent molecules add to the ends of the copolymer molecules and accelerate terminations Thin assumption was confirmed by the fact that "AnsUl" copol3vers prepared in solutiou have a lower molecular weight thas those bulk copolymerix*d* 1~ 1/2 ACCMION NR: AP"0479 The addition of the solvent is Probably accompanied by a partial cyclization of polvaMlonitrilo segments to form conjugated C=N bonds. The results are ,presented in graphs and tables (see Fig. 1). It is concluded that the reaction of epichlorohydrin with callulo:9 proceeds via a biftnotional mechanism forming intra- molecular crous-links,, and i is suggested thatp Ju the asse of intermolecular L iiW46- ACC MRs AP6001867 40- 0 Fig. 1.
