Title Technical Remarks Concerning the Growth of Monocrystals from a Melt.

Abstract : Description of several practical methods of improving the growth of
monocrystlas of Nal (TI) frcm a melt using the Bridgeman and Kyropoulos
methods. For the Bridgeman method, the authors proposed such a shape
for the eud of the capillary portion of the tube " causing the cleavage
pl=e to orient itslef perpendicular to the axis of the crystal. To
prevent formation ofstresses in the specimen, usually produced during
the cooling by the difference in-the coefficient of thermal expansion of
the tube ar.1 that of the crystal., it is recommended that the crystal be
molten off the tube immecliately after the end of the crystallization (for
this purpose the hatter portion of the furnace is moved'on) and to move
the crystal to the opposite, expanded portion of the tube. In the wide

portion, the crystal will touch the walls of the vessel only in the few
points) and the cooling will occur freely.. without compression. -Using
the Kyropoulos method, better result6 are obrained if the crucible with
the melt,, covered with a porcelaim cover with a hole through it, iB
rotated during the growth of the crystal.

Abstract: The results of 12 experiments of growing quartz in autoelaves
2B cm long and 1.9 = in dia. in aqueous solution of 50 of
Na.,CO:s + 0.40 of KOH on seeding plat4is of AT cuts are given.
The data obtained by the authors correspond satisfactorily to
earlier data (Kennedy'G., Econ. Geol.' 1950, 45, 629). The
experiments carried out with various.filling (40 to 800) and at
low temperatures showed a monotonous solubility rise together
with the temperature. The crystal growth speed under these
conditions is insignificant - At low filling and high tempera-
tures, the reciprocal solubility phenomenon was observed In

accordance with Kennedy's data. At mean filling ragnitudes
and temperatures (these conditions prove to be the most favor-
able for the industrial grovth of quartz crystals), a growth
speed of 1 mm per them along the Z axis was achieved, which
vas the greatest speed so far obtained according to the au-
thors.

On the influence of impurit,4's....
bleaching curves lie entirely. below the colouriAg curve for Pc-

ystals, and partly above p4rtly below for the,Pt etystals. Optical
bleaching curves for both crystals have a negattve slope. Significant
differences between Pc crystals and Pt crystals-are obtained after
restingthe samples subsequent to their partial optical bleaching.
Absorbtion spectra.of the samples were.also measured. The,results
can be explained qualitiatively by assuming a light OH- concentration
.~.-'in Pt-crystals, and postulating a new colouring process for such
crystals, involving the dissociation of OR-ions under irradiation.

Abstract: [Author's Hungarian summary] A paper test is recommended for the
demonstration of blood in the feces. The -paper can be easily prepared by the
individual technicians and will give reliable data for months. The test can
be carried out rapidly, without laboratory equipment, on a small amount of
sample. According to the experiences gained in testing 180 fecal samples, the
method is somewhat more sensitive than the Weber reaction. In 1.7 per cent of
the cases, there was an uncertain color reaction. 4 Hungarian, 7 Western

Abstract; Four hundred seven patients were successfully trea-
ted with Injections of a 10% solution of NaI in
doses of 6-10 ml daily, Together with Nal the
patients received daily doses of puroverin, ser-
pasil, apresoline or adelphan. In some cases, com-
bination of drugs were prescribed. The best re-
sults were noted in hypertensives with severe changes
in the fundi and in hypertension of arteriosclerotic
origin. The advantages of Na method: sile effects
are very rare, less puroverin and serpasil is re-

Title Technical Remarks Concerning the Growth of Monocrystals from a Melt.

Abstract : Description of several practical methods of improving the growth of
monocrystlas of Nal (TI) frcm a melt using the Bridgeman and Kyropoulos
methods. For the Bridgeman method, the authors proposed such a shape
for the eud of the capillary portion of the tube " causing the cleavage
pl=e to orient itslef perpendicular to the axis of the crystal. To
prevent formation ofstresses in the specimen, usually produced during
the cooling by the difference in-the coefficient of thermal expansion of
the tube ar.1 that of the crystal., it is recommended that the crystal be
molten off the tube immecliately after the end of the crystallization (for
this purpose the hatter portion of the furnace is moved'on) and to move
the crystal to the opposite, expanded portion of the tube. In the wide

Abstract: The results of 12 experiments of growing quartz in autoelaves
2B cm long and 1.9 = in dia. in aqueous solution of 50 of
Na.,CO:s + 0.40 of KOH on seeding plat4is of AT cuts are given.
The data obtained by the authors correspond satisfactorily to
earlier data (Kennedy'G., Econ. Geol.' 1950, 45, 629). The
experiments carried out with various.filling (40 to 800) and at
low temperatures showed a monotonous solubility rise together
with the temperature. The crystal growth speed under these
conditions is insignificant - At low filling and high tempera-
tures, the reciprocal solubility phenomenon was observed In

On the influence of impurit,4's....

bleaching curves for both crystals have a negattve slope. Significant
differences between Pc crystals and Pt crystals-are obtained after
restingthe samples subsequent to their partial optical bleaching.
Absorbtion spectra.of the samples were.also measured. The,results
can be explained qualitiatively by assuming a light OH- concentration
.~.-'in Pt-crystals, and postulating a new colouring process for such
crystals, involving the dissociation of OR-ions under irradiation.

Abstract: [Author's Hungarian summary] A paper test is recommended for the
demonstration of blood in the feces. The -paper can be easily prepared by the
individual technicians and will give reliable data for months. The test can
be carried out rapidly, without laboratory equipment, on a small amount of
sample. According to the experiences gained in testing 180 fecal samples, the
method is somewhat more sensitive than the Weber reaction. In 1.7 per cent of
the cases, there was an uncertain color reaction. 4 Hungarian, 7 Western

Abstract; Four hundred seven patients were successfully trea-
ted with Injections of a 10% solution of NaI in
doses of 6-10 ml daily, Together with Nal the
patients received daily doses of puroverin, ser-
pasil, apresoline or adelphan. In some cases, com-
bination of drugs were prescribed. The best re-
sults were noted in hypertensives with severe changes
in the fundi and in hypertension of arteriosclerotic
origin. The advantages of Na method: sile effects
are very rare, less puroverin and serpasil is re-

The strength and chemical constitution of the long bones of white rats fed .1 normal
diet have been investigated during growth. The ash Increases with age while the
nitrogen content decreases. No measurable change In the Ca:P ratio or the ash was
observed with increasing age. The Ca:N ratio increases with age as In human
beings. Of the nitrogen compounds collagen and the compounds similar to it show
the smallest decrease with increasing age. No relationship was established between
the age of the bones and the citric acid content.
