To increase the determination accuracy, a two-phase medium Is used, such as motor oil!,'or diesel fuel-Yin which the spherical drops being studiedp are sNu-i-t-e-4--in a single plane at the boundairy or these media and are not subject to evaporation and spreading. The accuracy is within 10.001 mm. While oxidation is possible at 6000, graphite was heated to 10000 without use of an inert at- mospbere. An lnco=plete hermetic seal with graphite plugs is sufficient to permit measuring a given test piece three tines. Welding in carbon dioxide with consumable electrode is used at -he Ch,?Iyabinsk T-rac-.cr Plant1for Joining tractor pafts on the A-547r semi-auto- mat.l.- machine, where the gas flow is directed by a chromeplated brass nozzle (Fi-z 1 1), placed on the rubbed housing of the burner tip. The use of this nozzle presents hcwever, a series of1deficiencles, such as ahort-circuits of the weld- Ing current, sticking of metil splashIngs to the Intermal nozzle surface, and s:hcrt. servIce life of the nozzle. The laboratory of mineral ceramics at the Plant developed ceramic nozzlis to replace the chrome-plated brass nozzles, pre- rared in a metallic mold b7 prezs-foryiing from a cerarnic mass of 12 - 14% mois- ture, The c:)mponen"s of ~.he teramic- material were dried, cr-ashed, screened, and mixei d-iring 8 h, The mater-'al was then wetted with water to 28 - 30% for Card 1// 4 S/135/61/000/004/010/012 A006/A101 Cerairic Nozzles of the A-547r;Semi-Automatic Machine for Welding in Carbon Diox- ide seven days and then molded. the molded nozzles were dried at room temperature -and roasted in an electric fu~hace. Tests per-. formed with experimental ceramle nozzles proved satisfactory. The replacing of brass nozzles by the now ceramic ones presents the following advantages: the possibility of a contact between the nozzle and the part to be welded is excluded the durability of nozzles is raised by a factor of 14 - 16; scare chrome-plated brass is replaced by cheap ceramic materiali labor consuming processes of manu- facturing the nozzles are substituted by advanced press forming methods, elimirBt. ing subsequent mechanical treatment; the time of exchanging and cleaning the nozzles from m!tal splashings Is considerably redficed.
