&bstga; A total of 12 derivatives of 1-, 2-, 3- and 4-nitro-g-aminoacridine-
were prepared. Data on the intermediates in these synthes:es is given. All
12 nitro compounds were tested for growth-inhibiting activity on germs of
Lepidium sativum," for tmour-inhibiting activity in the 14yjamura test.
Some positive results were obtained. Detailed studies of the antitunour
activity of these derivatives will be published separately.

Abst : An investigation of an outbreak of influenza type C in
a children's home was conducted in February-Wrch 1955-
Vaccination of the Children with mixed vaccine A, Al,
and B carried out four months before the outbreakpro-
ved to be ineffective. The outbreak of influenza type
C clinically does not differ from outbreaks of type A,
Al, and B. A test of sera of convelescents from virus
type C which were received at the end of the outbreak
from abroad revealed the presence of antibodies to virus

'It is found that dispersion of both indices of refraction in an ADP single crystal-
varies with the temperature of the specimen in the ultraviolet region. This is

Abstract :It was shown experimentally -that serum intrape-
ritoneally administered to mice prevents them
from infection by Trypanosoma equiperdum (expe-
riments were carried out with South kfrican
strains) for a period of 18 to 20 hours. Human
serum in a dose of 0.5 ml inhibited the develop-
ment of up to 70,000 trypanosoma. The mice were
deprived of immunity when trypanosoma again

Abstract administered to the animal was kelled by the
human serum. The injection of blood obtained
from the mice which simultaneously received
trypanosoma and human-serum did not infect the
animals. Consequently, human serum not only in-
hibits the development of trypanosoma but it
also destroys them. Sera obtained from Pams,
hogs, and chickens do not act similarly.

after prolonged Illumination. It is shown that the luminescence yield of
anthracene after illumination decreases all the more rapidly, the more
naphtacene impurity it contains. If a vessel with anthracene is pumped out or
filled with vater, then the luminescence yield stops to decrease after
illumination.
