and shearing) of 364 rock salt specimens from the "Ocna
Muresului" mine after they have been kept 7 days in a sa-
turated NaCl solution. These magnitudes are comp4:-ed with
data of dry specimens. The specimens of cubic shape kept

compression resistance of 4 to 16%. The shearing resis-
tance of specimens prepared in the shape of thick prisms
and kept in NaCl is by 21% greater than that of dry speci-
mens. The increase of the resistance to compression and
shearing of wet specimens is explained by the deposition
of fine NaCl crystals in pores and on the rough surface of
the specimens. The resistance to bending and tension de-
creases by 50%, which is explained by a decrease of the ad-
hesion a ng the salt crystals in consequence of the satu-
rated NaCl solution action. The change of mechanical pro-
perties depends on the depth, to which the NaCl solution
has permeated the specimen. Specimens of white salt show-
ed a lower resistance to breaking than specimens of salt

Abstract: The epizootology, ethiology, pathological anatomy,
the clinical picture, diagnosis, differential diag-
nosis, treatment and prophylaxis of hoof rot are
described. In Yugoslavia this disease has great
importance in sheep breeding. In bacteriological
examination of diseased hoofs Spirohaeta. pe@northa
8 necrophorus and Fusiformis nodosus were found.

Abstract: from copper sulfate, 5 percent "chloramphenicol"
oint-ment, terramycin ointment and a solution of
picric acid saturated with 96 percent alcohol,
as well as from bathing with 5-10 percent solution
of acid copper sulfate or in a 5-10 percent solution
of formalin. The diseased sheep were separated
from the healthy ones, and no less than a
month were released into the healthy flock after
their recovery.

TEXT. The article describes the well-known principle of synthetic
ion-exchange resins and lists their principal uses, including the
following: Water treatment for power-plant boilers; separation of
uranium from ores; processing of radioactive wastes from nuclear
power plants and reactors; recovery of nickel and chromium from
plating baths; removal of ash contents and lime in sugar produc-
tion5 separation of antibiotics and alkaloids in the pharmaceutical
industry. In addition to production applications, ion-exchange
resins render valuable services in various research fields, medicine
and agrochemistry. Several types of ion-exchange resins are already
being produced in the 6SSR and a number of new types has been devel-

TEXT: Ge is extracted from the soot or ash of hard coal (0.001-0.01 dj. Ge)
by cone. HC1. The extract is passed through an ion-exchange column, the
column is flished with pure 20 % HC1 and the Ge eluted with water. The
eluate contains 2-5-10 g1l Ge and 0.3 % HC1. The Ge is extracted from the
concentrate electrolytically, e.g.-by anodic oxidatioA of the Cl- ions,
thereby depositing metallic Ge at the cathode, or by electrolyzing the
eluate in a bath with an anion-exchange membrane. in the latter.case the
Ge may be separated in the form of GeO Example: an extract of Ge in

20 % HCl (Ge concentration, 0.1 g1l) is passed through the column, then
the ion7exchange resin is flushed with 20 @o HC1 (5-10 1) and distilled
