On Recombination on the Occasion of a Collision of Current
Carriers in Semiconductors.
The electrons in the conductivity zone can also be produced by
illumination of the crystal. If the wave functions for the initial
state are considered as plane waves and for the final state of the
bound electron as spherically symmetric functions (which are limit-

Here the constant C depends on the number of holes which are able
to recombine with the given center. In view of the inaccuracy of
evaluation, agreement with the experiment is good. iccording to the
author's opinion the ideas discussed are aconvincing argument in

favor of the fact that delli'sion recombination,may in various cases
be the predominant mechanism. This'pheniomenozi apparently
plays an important part in the physics of semiconductors.

ABSTRACT: It was the aim of the present paper to investigate the spectrum
of internal conversion electrons for the isomeric transition

in Hg ~'' from the i 13/2 to the f5/2-level. This 370-kev
transition was investigated under conditions, which permitted
measurement of the ratio K/L and to estimate the S5 contribu-
tion. L.A,Sliv and A.M.Band had estimated the E5 aliixture
to 901o. Preparation of-the Hg199 source is briefly described
and shown in figure 1. For measurement of the internal con-
version electron spectra, a magnetic spectrometer with a thick
lens was used. A G-h1 counter of the BAT-10 type with a mica
window (1-3 mg/cm 2) served as detector. The spectrometer had
a resolution of 3-3~`j, the counting backeround did not exceed
3 counts/nin; the electron absorption in the window was

diagrams. They show good agreement with those calculated
theoretically, for M4 transition in consideration of the finite
nuclear dimensions and nuclear field shielding by the electron
shell. The authors obtained: K:L(M+N) = 1:(0.57�0-09)':
t(0.12�0.07). The mixture ratio of M4 to E5 is shown in
figure 7. The maximum E5 admixture is found not to exceed 11~1
which is in agreement with what was found by Pound and 'Jertheim.
The authors finally thank Professor k._qoltgn for his advice
during construction of the spectrometer and for his keen
interest. There are 7 figures and 13 references, 4 of which
are Soviet.

TEXT: In their letter to the editor the authors report on an investiga-
tion of the positron spectrum of Pr140. Measurements were made with a
long-lens spectrometer in which helical baffles were applied to separate
positron and electron radiations. The Pr140 isotope was obtained from a
neodymium fraction separated from a tantalum target by the chromatographic
method. The target was irradiated with 660-Mev protons (synchrocyclotron
of the Joint Institute of Nuclear Research at Dubna). Nd140 contained in
the Nd fraction decays into Pr140 by electron capture. The Kurie plot is
a straight line from 350 kev up to the maximum energy of 2366 � 24 kev

coupling having an output,of 100 milliwatts. The ampli-
fier was shown at the 15th All-Union Exhibition of
Radio Amateur Designs in Riga. r-IL n-.p-n transistor of

of one P6A and one P2B transistor are used. The circuit
diagram is shown in Fiugeure 1. A dynamic loudspeaker of

TEXT: At the proposal of the Ministerstvo zdravookhraneniya SSSR (Ministry
of Health of the USSR), the authors studied the characteristics of the three vac-
cinal strains of Brucellus abortus (19-BA, 19 and M) used in the USSR for liwmizirg
people against brucellosis. Gunea pigs were immunized subcutaneously or dermally
with the strains, killed off after 1, 5, 15, 3o, 45, 6o, 90 or 180 days and studle-
for pathological lesions, the isolation of bru2e!lae from various organs and for
their immune response. Strain M had greater residual virulence than strains 19-BA
and 19, caused more extensive pathological lesions and led to a greater spread

The Comparative Characteristics of Three Vaccinal Strains of Br-acella (119-BA, 19
and M) in Experimental Subcutaneous and Skin Administrati-on
response. The immune response from the M st-rain lasted longer and was. mo--re int-ense
than that caused by strains 19-IRA and 19. All three strains were highly imnwiogenic.
Dermal vaccination caused slightly less lesions and the same depth of immunity as V
subout-aneous immunization. Strain 19 is therefore to be recommended for vaccination
purposes, if strain M is used, care must be taken in selecting the correct dosage
in view of its greater residual virulence. There are 2 tables and 6 Soviet re-
ferences.
