TITLE: Production of boron hydrides of alkali metals

TEXT: Hydrogenation of' alkali metals is comparatively simple and rapid in
mixers running at a small number of revolutions (80-180 r.p.m.) and at
comparatively low temperatures (180-2200C), if petroleum distillation
products (spindle oil or kerosine) are used as the dispersion medium. In
certain cases, the u3e of erjulsifiers may then be omitted. The hydrogena-
tion time is reduced also. Impurities are easily removed and a high purity
boron hydride is obtained if the solution formed is evaporated to an alkali
concentration of 40-50- Sodium boron hydride is obtained from a solution
of alkali metal hydrides by well-known methods (treating with methylborate).

Among 49,000 inhabitants of a quarter of Budapest 991 positive reactors (2.5%)
were detected (Mandula or Kahn test). 454 (1.51,e) were found to be actually surrer-
ing from syphilis; 218 or thein had already been treated previously. A further
analysis is presented. There were no fresh cases. No value of importance for tile
detection of sources or infection could be derived from these serial exprninations.

mals examined. Its cidence was highast in bulls, less in cows and rare

painful overgrowths are present, the animals must be kept in stables. The

On the influence of impurities....
bleaching curves lie entirely below the colouriAg curve for Pc-
crystals, and partly above '04rtly below for the,Pt ctystals. Optical
bleaching curves for both crystals have a negative slope. Significant
differences between Pc crystals and Pt crystalB.are obtained after
resting the samples subsequent to their partial optical bleaching.
Absorbtion spectra of the samples were also measured, The results
can be explained qualitiatively by assuming a light OR- concentration
in Pt-crystals, and nostulating a new colouring process for such
crystals, involving the dissociation of Off-ions under irradiation.

The advent of supersonic aircraft has made it necessary to study the
effect of pulsed noise (sonic boom or acoustic shock) on the human organismol

22-52 at an observation point located under a flight path. The following
physiological indices were recorded prior to, during, and after the acoustic

!studied, together with the electrical sensitivity of the visual analyzer, the
@duration and latent period of the visual afterimage, and the corticosteroid

level in the peripheral blood (all both before and after shocks). To supple-
ment these data, a questionnaire was distributed to inhabitants of a city

ilocated under a flight path.
Acoustic shocks with intensities up to U. 4 kglm2, produced by an air-
craft cruising over the observation point, caused sorne brief physiological
ishifts in man: quickening of the pulse by 10--46 beats/min, and decrease in
Ithe amplitude of the alpha rhythm of an EEG. However, these shifts dtd
