Abstract The author's scher- specifies five phases: a "prephase",
three actual phases and a "postphase". Agglutination of
the thrombocytes and constriction of the sual I est capil-
laries occur during the "prephase". In the first phase
thrombokinase (thromboplastin) is formed as a result of
the interaction of platelet factors (1,2,314;); plasma
factors (VIII, IX, X, ZI) and tissue thrombokinase. In
the second phase thrombin is formed from prothrombin un-
der the influence of active thrombokinase (in the presen-
ce of factor V or VI.) Fibrin appears in the third phase
in consequence of the enzymatic effect of thrombin on

fibrinogen. Tn the "postphase" the clot shrinks and expre-
sses the serum (retraction.) The second part of the "post-
Phase" is fibrinolysis, in the course of vhich dissolution
of the retracted fibrin occurs. Included in the schema
are activators. inhibitors of the clotting process, anti-
inhibitors and their multiple effects in the individual
phases. The author concludes with a sch linking hemor-
rhagic diastheses with individual blood clotting factors.

ABSTRACT; The laboratory for the study of blood coagulation and muscles,
began operations in May 1955 in Budapest. The author, director
of this laboratory, discusses problems dealt with by this
institution, including investigations of blood coagulability
with the aid of a special electric device, the application
of the "X.A.X." drug for the prevention and treatment of in-
flammation of blood vessels, and a practical investigation of
muscles using such devices as the myotonometer and the myo-
graph, to register muscular diseases. The myotonometer carries
out measurements of muscular work and analyzes their nervous
state. The myograph records muscular activity in the form
of curves on a paper tape. Both of the above instruments are
used for diagnosing various diseases. There are 4 figures.

Abstract: The infection of large areas of potatoes and toma-
toes was noted in Hungary in 1949. In the thornapple
one observed a strongly accentuated dwarfing of the
top third of the stew. and leaf and flower deformation.
This disease is identical with the potato blight
described in the USSR. In Hungary this diEease was
also observed on tobacco, capsicum, and particularly

A.BSTRACT. In this case a metric is interpreted as a form of measuring the distance in a
vector space of patterns as based on algorithms for the solution of a particular problem of
pattern recognition, namely, algorithms for the recognition of plane geometric figures (blue-
prints) on a plane surface by means of the mathematical apparatus of R-functions developed by
V. L. Rvachev (Geometricheskiye prilozheniya. algebry logiki. Izd-vo "Tekhnika, " 1966).

nates of points on a plane and to reduce the problem of recognition of geometric figures to
the recognition of their analytic functions by means of digital computers, with a blueprint

t4p auffiors show how a class of metrics in these problems can be selected by the R-runction
rnethod and how the principal rules for the classification of blueprints can be constructed on
the basis of a conditionally optimal metric obtained by transforming the subset [Ai) of points
on the plane xOy, on introducing the concept of distance from a point to the blueprint on the
xOy plane. Mic metric is determined in a metric space; this is warranted, considering that
distance represents a real and estimable function by means of which blueprints can be ordered

Czech). 'rho discovery of remants of ancient direct-reduction
furnaces is described and an explanation is given of the
functioning and chemical processes in these furnaces which
were operated at only 700* -900' C- Lres containing 1,5-49,C
of iron ;w1d IU-30% of silica were broken up into 15-25 =.
pieces which were mixed with an equal volume of charcoal.
This mixture was charged into the furnace in quantities of
about 70 cu. dm. at a time. Such a charip yielded 2.5-5.8
kg. of iron, and 5 to 12 charges were neces3iry to obtain
about 30 k4. or iron, for which a time of 12
-to 24 hr. was
required. To withdraw the iron it was necessary to break
open the lower part of the furnace wall, which was then repaired
so that the operation could start afroah. E. G.
