At the instant of deformation by rolling, large microstresses developp the magnitude of which in strongly deformed regions can exceed the ab of the material.1 1-1he microcracks or microscopic incipient cracks which are produced in this manner can ! ,be one of 'the causes of the stratification of the rolled section, With increasing an- Inealing temperature of the deformed molybdenum, hardening of the metal is observed in Ithe interval 400 - 500* and is attributed to the deformation aging. Above -6000, up !to -the recrystallization temperature, intense weakening is obsenred. With decreasing Ithickness of the rolled section, the temperature of the recrystallizatior. drops (from .1/2 uDc: 669.28:' 62o.17 ;,_Card--- '-ACC NR, AR6035428--- 1000 to 8500). in the recrystallized molybdenum, one observes separation of brittle phases which apparently are compounds of the impurities (C) N) with the Molybdenum, 7-he presence of such phases can also lead to microscopic incipient cracks during the process of hot rolling of the sheetp owing.to the unequal coefficient of thermal ex- pansion of the matrix and of the phase. 1. '.iormally, CaH2 is produced in the following sequence: crushing of 45-50 kg blocks of double-distilled calcium metal into small (-150 mm) lumps of arbitrary shape by means of a 50-ton hydraulic press; cbarg- ing of these lumps (which weigh -2 kg each) into a stainless steel retort which is then hermetically covered; evacuation of air from the retort, connection of the retort to a water supply line via a rotametex; and placement of the retort in a furnace heated to 600%. Within 30-40 min afterward the-period of rapid Cc. rd 1 /3 -'-L 2682 -66-- ACCESSION NR: AT5022897 absorption of hydrogen by calcium sets in, following the reaction: Ca + H - CaH + 195.1 kilo-Joules (46.6 kcal/mole). 2 2 J Since the reaction between Ca and H is known to c--cur more completely at 300- 2 400% than at 800'C, the temperature of saturation with H mentally was experi reduced to 400-500*C on directly charging the entire calcium metal block into the retortwithout first crusbing the calcium. To reduce the amount of fused CaR 29 the consumption Of H2 in the subsequent experiments was lowered to 1.5 m /hr. Ultimately, it was thus foun4 possible to increase the yield of acceptable CaH2- to 987., while increasing the burden per retort to two 45-50 kg blocks of Ca metal This new technique dispenses with the preliminary cruslnirg of Ca blocks., As for TiH it is produced with the same equipment as above. The titanium subjected to 2 saturation with R is taken in the form of either powder or sponge (wastes of the 2 thermal reduction of magnesium). It was experimentally established that the pro- cess of the saturation of Ti with H in the furnace can be safely reduced from 6 to 1 hr and, further, that adjusting the saturation temperature to 500*C and the rate of delivery of hydrogen to 4 m3/hr makes it possible greatly to increase C.,d 2 /3 L 2682-66 ACCESSION NR: AT5022897 furnace productivity and reduce power consumption~ Orig. art. has: 3 tables. Continuously Control Independent Work (Posto nno kontrolirovat' samostoyatellnyye zanyatiya) .3m PERIODICAL: Vestnik Vysshey Shkoly, March 1957~ # 3, p 63-66 (USSR) ABSTRACT: The article begins with the statement that a proper organi- zation of student independent work is one of the most com- plicated questions that professors and instructors of VUZ institutions face. Such organization*is difficult as there are no rules, and cannot be any, which can be applied to existing conditions. The aihthor, an instructor at Penza Industrial Institute explains the pedagogic measures adopted by him to induce the students to work from the very begin- ning of the semester. Thus, for instance, preliminary colloquies have been introduced to inerbase student inde- pendence in carrying out laboratory work for which the Yoscow Institute of Energetics (Moskovskiy energeticheskiy institut) has aet the example. The methods used reet with Card 1/2 the students' approval. SOV/1 12-57 -6-17-660 Translation from: Referativnyy zhurnal. Elektrotekhnika, 1957, Nr 6, p 149 (USSR) AUTHOR: Shishkin, A. A. TITLE: Filiatle-Balance- Biidge With a Resistive Output (FoLzobalansnyy most s aktivnym soprotivleniyem na vvkhode) PERIODICAL: Tr. Penzensk. industr. in-ta, 1955, Nr 3, pp 61-69 ABSTRACT: A phase-balance bridge circuit is analyzed which serves to obtain a DC voltage proportional to the error angle of 2 input sinusoidal voltages of the same frequency. A formulais developed which gives the relationship between the DC output voltage Uo (see figure) and the input signal values e1 and e2 and the circuit parameters. Diode characteristics are assumed to be perfect (a constant forward resistance RS and an infinite backward resistance). With constants elmax, e2max and circuit parameters, the mean value of U. is directly proportional to the sine of the phase shift angle. An experimental study of the circuit with RI = 30,900 ohm, R3 = 14,700 ohm, RH = 82,500 ohm, e,, max = 58 V, e,m,, = 0. 39, and with a 6X6 double diode revealed an agree- el.a. ment between the experimental and the estimated data within 3% or less for the error angles within+ 200. TITLE: Apparatus for measuring the moisture content of ammonium nitrate explosives PERIODICAL: Referativnyy zhurnal. Khimiya, no. 21, 1961, 391, abstract 21L446 (Bezopasno~tl truda v pr..)m-sti, no. 4, 1961, 23 - 24) TEXT: The az-'-icle describes a portable electrical instrument n3B (PEV) designed for the rapid measurement of the moisture content of ammonium nitrate explcsives and of ammonium nitrate. The instrument measures the electrical resistivity of samples of the substance. This valu" is a function of humidity. To calibrate the PEV, the resistivity of several samples is measured, and at the same time their moisture content is determined by the oven-drying method. The PEV consists of an electric circuit for measuring resistance, and a transmitting unit which is a Card 112 31735 3/081/61/000/021/062/094 Apparatus for measuring the moisture ... B138/B101 cylindrical plastic container with an inside diameter of 65 mm and depth of 27 mm. It has two aluminium electrodes in the shape of rectangular plates 27 mm in length and 10 mm wide. The test substance, in powder form, is placed in the transmitting unit, resistivity is measured, and the moisture content is found from the calibrating curve. With the appropriate calibration, the instrument can be used to measure the moisture content of various different substances which have high electrical conductivity, e.g. mineral salts and fertilisers.
