J. Silberstein. Reinstoffe in Wissenschaft und Technik, Internationales Simposium 30 November bis 2 Dezember 1961 in Dresden, Berlin, j65, (1963)) has been modified andapplied to the determination of boron in high-purity silica. The method involves pre- liminary concentration of boron by removal of silica with hydrofluoric acid in-the presence of mannitol. The concentrate is subjected to spectrochemical analysis with the use of ISP-28 or ISP-22 spectrograpbs and pure boric acid solutions as slandards. The concentration sensi- - tivity of the method is 2-3 x 10- X; the absolute tens-itivit-y is 1/2 ACCESSION NR: AP4005081 1-2 x 10-8 S, On the average the mean relative error Is 1OZ. For very small amounts of boron, the error is 25-302. The proposed method has been successfully tested in production. Orig. art. has: I table. Recommendations for designing blades with an increased relative thickness of the air- foil root cross section are given. The following conclusions were reached: a) In designing blades requiring improvements in strength, frequency characteristics, axial dimensions, and the distribution of airfoil's maximum thickness and chord along the blade must be selected in accordance with changed mechanical stresses and M number along the radius. b) To improve the strength and vibration characteristics of blades at moderate M numbers, it is recommended that the relative thickness of the root crosi section of the airfoil be increased by 15-18%, since it does not cause a signifi- cant decrease in the efficiency and pressure of the stage when the blades are made in accordance with the recommended method. c) The increase in the blade's strength thus Card 1/2 UDC: 62-226-2:621.515.001.57 1-- C -- - A CNJ~. permits a decrease in the chord and sufficiently lowers the axial dimensions of the stage. If the initial lengthening of the blades is R - >1, then some decrease in the-stage's efficiency is to be expected. In the xase of short blades, when stage efficiency increases. From a saturated solution of terphenyl in benzene, to which 5-8% of polystyrene was added, scintillators were produced by pouring this solution onto a glass plate having a thickness of 1-2 mm and a di- ameter of 100 mm. 200 ~m3 of a saturated solution with a content of 0,5-1 g pulverized terphenyl is needed for the production of scin- tillators of a thickness of 5-10 mg/cm2 and a diameter of 100 mm. The relative efficacy of the sointillators was investigated in a 21r-geometry with a photomultiplier ~)Y- 6 at the same voltage (2 000 V). Scintillators of para- and meta-terphenyl were investi- gated. The use of paraterphenyl as a scintillator makes it possible to increase the efficacy of ~-counting by 40-50%. Efficacy compared to P -recording attains 100% with the scintilla- tors produced, and is, in reality, limited only by the background Card 1/2 noise of the photomultiplier. According to the author, experienge has shown that the directional gyro compass should not be reset a. zero reading after every turn during the flight, but should be set with reference to the magnetic or astrocompass reading. In long-range flights, both at high and medium latitudes, the GPK was used as the basic aircraft compass, the readings of which were used by the navigators for various navi- gational computations. Air navigation with the aid of the directional gyro compass, set with reference to the actual course on the magnetic or astro- compass, becomes simple and clear. The course., indicated by GPK, can be used by the navigator for route plotting on the map and for taking bearings from radio stations, and it is not necessary to change the angle setting of the map in the air position indicator during the turns. Farther, the author describes the pro- cedure of route plotting for a flight on a great circle course. AVAILABLE: Library of Congress Card 1/1 1. Pilots - Training methods 2. Isolated aplastic anaemia: erythroblastophthisis VNITILL9K. 1956. 217(596-597) An isolated aplastic anaemia is described in a man of 78 yr. Characteristic signs: severe chronic normochromic, dormocytic anaemia, the reticulocytes are re- duced or absent. In the bone ma4row there is normal granulocytopoiesis and thrombocytopotesis, but the erythropoiesis is lowered or absent. The leucocytes, the, differential count of leucocytes and the thrombocytes are normal in peripheral blood. There is no extramedullary haemopoiesis. The antianaernic treatment is quite unsuccessful, only transfusions of blood are helpful. The patient is observed for 2 yr.,, 78 transfusions of resuspended erythrocytes or concentrated mass of erythrocytes were given. His condition remains unchanged.
