unsaturated),into aromatic hydrocarbons. Optimum parameters for dehydro-
cyclization of synthol C fraction have been established. [A-bstracter's

TEXTt In addition to (I), the following intermediate derivative (II) has'
been produced by reducing crocic acid with dilute HI in the presence of
red phosphorus for 2 hours; this substance II,is C 10H6010, yield 40%,
melting point 110OC; it forms a crystal hydrate with 4 molecules of water
and a Ba.salt, C H 0 Ba '5H 0. The struct-ure of II has been confirmed
10 2 10 2 2
by determining the molecular weight of its tetramethyl ether (III), the
melting point of which is 150 - 1510C, and by the formation of the
derivatives (IV)-(VI). The substance to which the structure (VII),has
been ascribed was produced by reactions betweenII, IV and V with SOC1 2'
followed by hydrolysis.

Title The Corrosion of Chemical Equipment by Aqueous Solutions
of Monoeth&nolamine
Orig Pub: Khim,, prom-st, 1956, No 3; 153-156
Abstract: The study of equipment used in the purification of gases
from H S and 002 by absorption in aqueous solutions of
monoetEanok-amine (I) has shown that corrosion sets in on
the tube3 of the first-stage boiler, on the surface of
the distillation column, on the thermocouple wells, and
on the tubes of the heat-exchanger. Laboratory tests on
carbon steels containin 0.21% C and type IKhl8N9T stain-
less steel in 15 and 30/0 aqueous solutions of I, prepared
from a 15% solution of I and containing 1.25 gms/liter of
HO~ in a commercial 15% solution of I, as well as tests
on ~peclmens under boiler service conditions have shown

Abs Jour: Ref Zhur-Khimiya, No 3, 1957, 10546
Abstract: that whereas carbon steels are completely stable in pure
solutions of I prepared in the laboratory and in vacuum
distilled solutions of I, such steels are attacked by
commercial solutions of It Type IKhlBN9T steels are also
attacked under production conditions. The investigations
have shown that the corrosion of carbon steels and of
IKhlBN9T steels in-aqueous solutions of I is caused by
the accumulation of corrosively active components. it has
been established also that the corrosion of the tested
steels in solutions of I is accelerated at higher gas
velocities and a t higher temperatures. The investigation
has shown that the addition of K Cr207 and of doubly
substituted sodium phosphate as Ynhi itors to a solution
of I has no effect on the corrosion rate,
