~Abstract: Artificial grass mixtures in Poland after 2-3 years become changed
in composition and yield smaller crops,v hile natural vegetative
combinations which are sustained by their rootstocks are very
stable. A new method of laying foundations for meadows and Paz-
tures was developed: a layer of sod 3-5 cm thick is removed from
the better sections of the natural pastures and is cut into pieces
measuring 2-3 cm, which are manually laid at a distance nearly
.50 cm from one another and rolled. To combat weeds this section
is preliminarily seeded by an ordinary grass mixture, which is pro-

ABSTRACT; The process of formation of graphite in Ve - C alloys can
proceed in two quite different ways: 1) by dissolvingthe
cementite in the solid solution and bringing carbon atoms
to graphite centers by diffusion, and 2) by carbon segrega-
tion from the supersaturated solution (liquid or solid)o
~In the first case, graphite is called annealing carbon, and
in the second case, graphite of segregation~ It is assumed
that.the segregation graphite plays an important part in the
subsequent annealing In order to test this, the author in-
the process of graphite formation on the sur-
face of Fe - C alloys on thermal treatment in vacuum. The
results of this investigation, carried out over a wide range
of carbon concentration, are presented in this paper. The
behavior of pre-eutectic white iron surfaces in crystalli-
zation, cooling and isothermal holding was also studied.
Card 1/2 It is shown that in all cases of thermal treatment in.a

vacuum the process of graphite formation on the surface pro-
ceede at a considerably greater rate than.in the solid m&-
trix. It is assumed therefore that numerous microscopic
defects (pores, fissures, etc) play an important part in
the formation of graphitization centers, There are 4 pho-
tos and 5 Soviet references.
