Abstract: A report on a comparative study of antibiograms made with I.C.M1. tablets ( of the Rumanian State Drug Control authorities), with discs supplied by Stockholm's Karolinska Institut, and using the determination of minimum inhibiting con- centration by the dilution method. The study used 100 strains of staphylococci and 100 strains of enterobacteria. Analyzing the results, it.was found that in general the I.C.M. values agree with those obtained by the minimum inhibiting concentration method; the inhibition areas obtained with the two diffusimetric methods agreed for some of the strains, were larger with the Stockholm discs for others, and larger with. the I.C.M. tablets for another group. Abstract: Thiaauthors propose a method for calculating a.s-imple numerical index reflecting the sensitivity of a given strain to a particular antibiotic. The calculation involves a weighted averaging of sensitivity data, with arbitrary numerical values assigned to the occurrence of "highly sensitive" through "resist- ant" observations. Use of the index should simplify evaluation of sensitivity changes in time and facilitate comparisons of the value of different antibiotics.
