Equations are introduced for the components of the normal field and the current densities on either side of the Earth's surfaze. The complex Fourier transform >1 +00 f(u) =_ eiux f(x)dx 00 is applied to solve the integral equations for the current densities, the results being given by equations (11) and (12). The second problem is that of inclined contact in the field of a linear electrode. The equations for the current densities in the surfaces sepa:rating the media are solved by applying the Riemann- Mellin transf.),rm iz)o I s F (-,J ) d "J u i CWO Having detervined the transformed field strength, the inverse transformaticn is applied. In both these examples special cases are indicatee;. The last problem is that of a linear electrode at the surface of the Earth over a conducting semicircular Card 2/3 86A6 s/o4g/60/000/007/007/009/XX E031/E335 The Solutions of Some Two-dimensional Problems of Geophysical Exploration cylinder. Consider the field due to a linear electrode in the presence of a conducting wedge. The method of inversion in a circle is used. In the inverse plane a bipolar coordinate system is introduced. Another electrode is placed at the centre of inversion. An expression is given for the potential due to both electrodes. By placing the points of observation along a line passing tftrough the linear electrode and taking into account the Earth-air boundary by doubling the potential function, we obtain the solution of the original problem. ReductiQn was carried out'at volume rates of 900 - 6,000 hours--L when the reduction was 3-arried out with synthesis gas from 0.5 - 36 hpurs, and with hydro- gen at volume rate of 3,,000 hours--L for varylbg lengths of time. Investigations were also carried out on the dynamics of decomposition of hydrocarbonates, carbonates .ani hydrates of metals of the catalyst whe.n. heating up C' to a temperature of reduction. The latter exper'nients we:re carried out in conjunction with I. V. Malys~evaya. Th.3 catalysts were heated up to reduction temperatures in a current of synthesis gas,,hydrogen or nitrogen. It oan be observed that the activity of samples of the catalyst heated up t3 the temperature of reduction in a current of a gas mixture and nitrogen de-vreases (Fig.3). The effect of the time of reduction of the catalyst in a current of synthesis gas on its activity was investigated. When the time of reduction was increased from 0.5 to 12 hours the yield of synthesis products increased (Fie;.4). Results of the effect of various volume rates on the activity of the ca-balyst-show that catalysts, reduced at volume rates of 1500 - 3,000.hours-1 were most active (Fig.5). The electrolyte contained 20C Z/1 of copper 3ulfate and 100 g11 of sulfuric acid. The copper was pre- ,iipitated on a polished brass surface. If d-c of 60 mA/CM2 was used, the precipitate had a crystalline structure (Figure L, a). At a-c of the same density the precipitate is of regrul- ar order (Figure 1, b). The first layers are oriented perpen~- dicularly to the elect-rode.plane (Figure 2, a). The copper 'Layers precipitated by a-c have a fibrous structure (Figure 2, b). The sublayers have a determining influence on the utructure of the precipitates to a thickness of 5 - 10,N ,:Figure 3).
