ABSTRACT: Under some conditions it is not possiole to use modulitors of radiation
which are rotat-i by Kn electric motor. The authors found that a
modified Crookeel radicwietar can be also used as a radiition -nodulitor.
The moving system of' the r-idiomotar consisted of four mica ol'ites
blacicened on one side ind aluminized on the other. 1'riesa -)lAtes were
suspended at 450 to the vertical. , r-L,iiation flux which caused the
radiometer to rotate was directed horizontally on to the blac4aned sidda
of the plates. Radiation flux which was to be Laodulated was directed
vertically on to the aluiiiiiizad Bides of %he elates and was interrupted
when these plates rotated. fhe rite of rot, tion of the radiometer
depended on the vacuum and on the intensity of the horizontal radiation
flux, whic moved the plates. tie hi6he6t rate of' rot,,ition vao achieved
at 2 x 10- mm lig with the horizoiital flux intensity of 0.5 W. The ridio-
meter rotated then at 13 rev/sac, equivalent to a modulation frequency

Another variant of the Crooices' radiometer witn two series of piates
could also be used as the rtdiation modulator. In t~.is case one sories
of plates was fixed vertically and was used for rot.tion of the
radiometer, while the other was used to :nodul-te the verticai radiation
flux.

:ABSTRACT: This work describes a method of eparation ~f terephthalic acid from
pr
iparaethylloopropylbenzene vhich Is separated as a by-product in the alXylation of
!benzene in a vide olefinic fraction. The clear polymeric products vh1ch are
'formed after the aWlation of the above-mentioned fraction contain dialkyl
:benzenes.in approximately the folloving amounts: diethylbenzene 9%.
ethylisopropylbenzene fraction 193.i9sc about 12%.. and di-isopropylbenzene. By
:oxidizing the above dialkylbenzenes in the close and in the vide fractions vith
nitric acid it-is possible to obtain terephthalic acid with good yields. The
fractimi 19 0 to 195*C of the clear polymer corresponds to par~aethy].Isopropylbenzene.
3
By oxidizing this fraction vith nitric acid a yield of 82.8% of terephthalic acid
is obtained. Or1g. art. has: 2 tables and I figure.

ABSTRACT: At present coatings of powder matertais usually are deposited with the
aid of stationary are burners in which the powder is introduced into the plasma
jet in the region of the nozzle channel. Experiments with the deposition of
coatings of different w aterials _LW, Aftl 23 ZrOp and others) showed that the ef-
fectiveness of the process the coefficient uf utili-
zation of the powder material -- dependsto a large degree on the site of intro-
duction of the powder into the nozzle channel. in -this connection the authors

examine the optimal conditions for the formation of the jet of deposited material
as a function of the processes occurring in the plasma burner. An analysis of the
structure of the plasm jet in the nozzle channel on the basis of the laws of
thermodynamic and the kinetics of chemical reactions indicates that the region
directly beyond the active (anode) spot of the arc discharge is the optimal site
for introducing the gas and powder. The introduction of powder at this site vill
intensify the processes of recombination in the plasma jet. Owing to the in-
crease in the effective heat conduction of gases in the recombination-tempera-
ture range, the process of the transfer of heat from the high-temperature plasm
jet to the comparatively cold powder material will be greatly intensified in this
section of the nozzle channel. As for the position of the anode spot. this must
be experimentally determined, by means of a special probe, since it depends on thel
design and operating parmmters of the burner, such as the nozzle channel diameter,
and the rate of involution of the gas flow. Orig. art. has: 6 figures
