ABSTRACT: This article contains general Lnformation dealing with
the prqbrem& of determining the economic efficiency of
capital investments in the non-ferrous metallurgical
industry and also with determining the efficiency of capiLal
investment from the point of view of combined utilisation
of raw materials. An example Is included of calculation of
the specific capital investments for a non-specified
non-ferrous metal for a number of years akead according to
the "National Economy method".

cut by 9.3% at the Pec lien ganikel' Kornbinat. chiefly by increas-
ing the power of the electric furnaces from lZ to 21 megawatts
by rebuilding the furnace transformers and changing the furn-

Cu by 17.3%, and Co by 18.3"/o by cutting tinit c oil suill pt 1011 of

crease in tne proportion of concentrates in the melt charge, reduction in
transportalion costs, utilization of S froin tile waste gases of metallurgical
plants, utilization of tailing slags for the prodaction of building materials,
replacement of shaft-furnace smelting by elec-.rical smelting (cutting con-

lows: Ni from 87 to 96%, Cu from 88 to 96%, and Cu from 63 to 80%), in-

tion of the charge, separate electric redu(tion smelting of converter slags
to extract Go from them, and introduction of M separation by flotation in-
stead of melting (which should cut the C of convergion to 86.7% per t M).
The carbonyl process and autoclave treatment of the Ni concentrate ob-
tained by flotation of the M offer good prospects.

Professo.r -S.A. Perviiiihin says that P)zharitskiy nas a wrong

riines, because he does not sharply separate the socialist eco-
ziomy from the capita.list economy, considering the problem of
tippraisal without reference to the basic rules of development
of the socialist econory. in Particular the Soviet mineral and
raw material economy Pczharitsk-V ignored the experience of
Soviet projects institutions as G.prokhim (A.M. Levin, A.D.

'ABSTRACT: The possible methods o.1 extending the distances at which acoustic methods
are useful in determ:Lning the shape and location of inhomogeneities in rocks such as
ore deposits are discussed. The main obstacle in increasing the distance at which
acoustic methods are effective is the presence of noise. Measurements made in a mine
Jn Krivoy Roj; show that the industrial noise generated in the mine has a range of
frequencies of 12-5 kc. The authors extract the useful signal from noise by storing
t'-e signal on a cathode-ray tube. The second type of noise is surface waves pro-
paFating along the mine faces surfaces. When highly sensitive electrodynamic re-
C-c,d 112
ACC NR-' AT6032744
ceivers are used, the intense surface waves generate long-period free osciiiations fn
-the movable part of i:he receiver. In order not to decrease the sensitivity, the sys-
tem is damped only during the initial period when the surface waves are registered and
,before the arrival ol reflected waves. It is poinled out that the method of inverse
probability is effeccive in deteriaining the acoustic shadow in the presence of noise.
,Even the simDlest approximation of the shape of the shadow makes it possible to deter-
mine the sh~cds botmdaries using just a few trial values for its width, and thus to obtain the
ishape of the ore deposit. Orig. art. has: 4 figures and 2 formulas.

TOPIC TACS: semiconductor, photocanductorg photoconductivity,
electron distribution, distribution function, photocurrent
ABSTRACT: The effect of steady state Illumination on the distri-
button function of the photo-excited current carriers to considered.
It in shown that the energy of the distribution function may be non-
monotonic. This may essentially determine the spectral characteris-
ties of the photocurrent. The dependence of the photocurrent on the,
optical frequency near the atsorption edge nay differ from the
corresponding dependence of the absorption constant. It is shown
that the oscillations of photoconductivity with optisal frequency
