Abstract A preliminary irradiation (I) of rabbits with 6oo and gui-
nea-pigs 200 - 4W inhibits the production of agglutinins
(A) at a subsequent imminization with Proteus vulgaris.
Irradiation of irminized animals does not influence the ti-
ter A. The preliminary irradiation of the animals before
IMMIni ion with intestinal and paraintestinal bacilli
vaccines does not produce any changes in the titer A; ana-
logicaI negative results were obtained as a result of irra-
diatioa of the organism in the presence of a septic, inflam-
matory focus. Irradiation produces a lowering of phagocyte

rabbits,, prolonged subcutaneous introduction of biogenic stimulants increased the
absorpt'Lon capacity of cells in the active mesenchyma of the liver and spleen and
stinulated the development of antibodies (agglutinins) in the organism.

their capacity is 2 17 pulses each. In the interrogation
circuit the information relating to the stat-, of the binary
circuitis is obtained by means of diodes which are controlled
by a voltage drop developed across a portion of their anode
resistance. The swItching circuit. is in the form of a trigger
,CJZ,CUil6 supplied from a negative aource. A portion of the
ancide voltage of oach triode of the switcbing circuit is used
for opening the diodes which transmit the pulses from the quartz
oscillator to the counters~ The instrument was tested while
todazuriLng the timo intervals up to 9999 � 0.01. lisec,. The
maxim= error in the measurements did not exceed I lisec. When
necessary, it was possible to increase the accuracy of the
Instrument to + 0~1 lisec., On the basis of the above instruments,
the authors al7so diesigned a new device permitting measurement
of 40 time intervals with an error of + 0.02 psec, the maximum

ABSTRACT: The IPM-1 bolometric device for measuring pulsed uhf power
and, energy is described. Two bolometers of platinum wire, I u in diam-

figure.. The instrument has the following characteristics: measuring

'TITLE: An instrument for high-accuracy measurement of time
intervals

TExr: The instrument described (type W3V-4 (IVI-4).) was
designed on the principle adopted in an earlier device
(Ref. 2 - N.A. PelykIN A.V. Pronyushkin - PTB, no. 4, 1961, 83).
The high relative accuracy 6- this instrument is due to the
use of an oscillator and an electronic counter. The counter
and the interrogation circuits are of the same type as those
used in the earlier instrument. The high absolute accuracy of
the instrument is due to the use of an oscillograph system.
The instrument employs a two-ray tube, type 18SIO47 (18LO47).
When an input pulse appears, the hori 'zontal time bases 1 and
2 are actuated and when these return to their rest position
thevertical time base is triggered. The number of lines on

the seveen.of the tube is therefore.equal to the number of
input pulses. One input pulse is recorded on each line of the'.
time base 1 Simultaneously, timing pulses from a quartz-
crystal oscillator working at 1 Mc/s and an interrogation pulse
corresponding to the given input pulse:are applied to this time
base; the interrogation pulse is situated at the mid-point
bet-ween two neighbouring pulses of the quartz-crystal oscillator.~-~
The time base 2 is used for registering the number of timing
pul~ies received during the interval between two neighbouring
intorrogation pulses; the timing pulses are recorded in a
binary code. The instrument comprises a special circuit which
synchronously switches off the counter during three periods of
the crystal oscillator; this circuit made it possible to use
one counter instead of two. The counter continuously counts
the'pulses from the cry5tal oscillator beforo the appearance of
the first pulse. However, when an input pulse appears, the
time base 1 and a gating,pulse generator are triggered, the
gating generator producing a positive pulse of 1.5 " duration.
This pulse is applied to a coincidence circuit which transfers
