ABSTRACT: Attenuation of ultrasonic longitudinal and shear waves of 10-Mc
frequency in gamma- irradiated, or additively colored and deformed, sodium-
chloride crystals was measured. A photomechanical effect, which consists of
sudden and reversible attenuation changes upon exposure to light, was observed
in crystals containing new dislocations as well as in irradiated or additively
colored crystals.' It appears that this effect is caused by the interaction of fresh
dislocations with point defects unpinned during illumination. A maximum attenua-
tion decrease was noticed when crystals were Illuminated at a temperature range

TEXT- Investigations were made on Al-alloy PA-4, containing 0,77% ft, I Orl-%
S1 and 0,66%) Mn, after natural and artificial (at 1600C) aging during rolaling
bending -and composite strained state (bending with torsion). Fatigue testp, were
carried out at different stresses on 10 - 20 specimens for each
- , level. It was
established that the straggling of experimental data for the alloy obeys the law
of normal distribution. Fatigue curves were plotted in coordinates of stress -7.
versus the number of cycles N for various probabilities of failure. An analysis
of these curvesdiows that the ratio of 6w of the alloy after artificial aging to
6w of the alloy after natural aging, was 1.13, i.e. much below the corresponding
value for 6b = 1.54 and 60.2 - 2.28. The lesser value of this ratio for 61, is
apparently connected with the mechanism of developing fatigue fracture which is

ADSTRACTs The purpose of investigation was to obtain a mixture of
argon with another gas, which has a minimal Ionization work for
radiation. Tests were carried out with a pulsing chamber. A notice-
able reduction of ionization work was found in the argon with gaseous
admixtures having a lower ionization potential than*the exciting
potential of metastable argon states. This phenomenon is considered a
result of collisions of the second kind of admixed molecules with
metastable argon atoms. A minimal ionization ork of 2161 eV has been
obtained In the mixture of argon and acetylenelas result of a resonant
Increase of the cross section of collisions leading to Ionization. It

has been experimentally ascertained that the minimum of ionization
work Is provided by a mixture containing 0,8% of acetylene. Analysis
of experimental data has shown that the decrease of ionization work
occurring in the mixture of argon with acetylene at low pressure is
caused by the process of dual collision between the metastable argon
atomeand acetylene particles. As the pressure in acetylene increases
the Ionization work also increases as result of triple collisions
between the metastable argon atoms and two particles of acetylene.

ABSTILACT: Interdigital mycosis is transmit1ted in the army mainly
by insufficient disinfection of shoes when these are passed on from
one soldier to another, As the fungus may survive for-very long
periods without contact with human body (even several years) only
proper disinfection can prevent infection by the organisms. Per-
acetic acid was compared to other disinfectantscurrontly used in
the Czechoslovak Army (formaldehyde, formic acid, ethylene oxide).
Trichophyton interdigitale and Candida albicans wore used in the
experiments, 0.5'1'fo - 1% solutions of...peracetic acid acted faster
than other disinfectants in the same 6oncentrations and oven a
I minute exposure to 1% solution eliminated completely the fungi*
Peracetic acid also penetrates deeper into.the leather than.-other-

only saprophytic flora. The treatment prevented secondary infection, shortened
