tt~tin4 z3teel castings is inveotigated. An apparatuo used for ra-
dio r;iphic teot8 is described. The basic parameters of a ~'-te8t
by X J-~Iy ii-radiatiun using 192 Ir, the 157Cs and the 60 Co isotopes

which Ejerved as an emitter and the other as a receiver. Each trans-
ducer was equipped with a plautio adapter, acoustle contact being
made throu-h water. The frequencies used were 3, 1.5 and 8 Mc/a.
The defectoscope gain was regulated by means of a special plastic
standard. A diagram of the positioning of the acoustic heads and a
sketch of the standard are shown. The result of ultrasonic tests
are outlined together with the principles of interpretation of
oucillograms. Four of the most used types of oacillograms are.
shown, the distinctive feature of which is the presence of a mul-
tiple bottom echo, a weak bottom echo, a weak echo from defect, a
strong echo from defect and a damped bottom echo. The authors draw
attention to the difficulty of interpreting oscillograms in ultra-
somic testing of steel castings, The factors that affect the re-
SLIItS of ultrasonic check-up of steel castings and the factors to
be taken into account in interpreting the oscillograms are indica-
ted. The results of ultrasonic check-up are compared with the re-
sults of radiography. The comparison has shown that ultrasonic
testing is fully adequate for general check-up of the quality of
steel castings, and is much superior to the zudiographic method in

TEXT: The influence of the average particX6 size and of the coucentza-
tion of perbunan latex on its flow was studied. Flow was induced b.4
pressure and the viscosity was measured by mewis of a oapillary
viscometer with*a capillary radius of 0-0152 ma and 100 ma length.
Kerosene was used as extending liqu 'id. An Ubellobde viecometer was alv'
used. The viscosity was calculated from the Hagen-Poiseuille equation
The properties of the latex were studied at. concentrations of 0.5-47-3;~
and at 18-35 00. At concentrEitions of up to 25% the-latex behaves as a
Newtonian liquid, but at'high ooncentrations and at tensiona of
