sected) and showed anomalous structures. There was an abundance of Alzheimer
cells, partly with nueleoli. showing metachromasia. There was also prolifer-
ation of oligodendrogUa and astrocytes, while the microglia, were normal.
No necrotic processes were found. Chemical examination showed that both the
brain and the liver had an increased copper content. The iron content in the
cerebral cortex. and the white matter was decreased; it was normal'in the

ABSTRACT: The rotational temperatures of the vibrational, rotational CO molecular
7 -2, 1-3, 2-4,3-5, h-6 in the solar'photosphere are determined. Zhe

quantummechanical considerations of Herman and Wallis, are god'h for the application
of the I and I '+ 1 intensity factors for theP and R branches of the first overtone
lines of CO. Within the measurement precision the rotational temperatures of all the,
ba2d studied are practically the same (with the exception of the 4-6 band, which is
located in thd region of strong atomspheric water-vapor bands). The mean rotational
temperature is 4850 * IdOK (mean quadratic,error). The value of the error leads to
doubts of the presence of thermal nonuniformitieu as indicated by Newkirk, who uBed'..

Minnaert's model and studied the'center-to-limb behavior of the equivalent widths of
certain CO lines. However, this photosphekic model is not of sufficient accuracy for
,,the transition region. The error of determination may be an additional factor
responsible for the detection of nonuniformities. The almost identical rotational
temperatures found for different vibrational-rotationiLl bands of the first overtone
of.CO are evidently a result of the thin,layer from which this overtone originates*

The neurovascular reaction, as evaluated bv means of the histamine test, is in-
creased in more than 50T,, of all pregnant women. The react-Ions can be normalized
in such cases by treatment with vit. C and P. Determination of vit. C in the blood
of pregnant women nearing term showed considerable differences between treated
and non-treated women. In the treated*women, the vit. C concentration showed
an increase of I 1054; comparison of cord blood, however, showed only the insigni-
ficant difference of 2.30,16 between treaied and untreated mothers.

The present paper is meant to show the Importance of enteric, bacterlophages as
a general pollution indicator of surface waters, as an epidemioloffical indicator
as well as regards their Intervention in the self-purification processes. These Stu-
dies proved that the frequency and the ratio between antityphoid-coli bacteriophagen
to in connection with the bordering settlements and increase with the degree of
contamination. The frequency of typhocoll bacteriophages is also influenced by
rainfall and by the hygienic standard of the respective territory and Ito inhabitants.
There is a relation between the resistance frequency of the typhoid VI bacterio-
phages and the local epidemiological state: the typhoid and coll bacterlophages do
not participate In the self-purification process of surface waters; on the contrary
in the self-purification zones they are disintegrated. An evident parallelism is noticed
between the data concerning pollution preaented by the bacterlophages and other
bacteriological and chemical indicators used.
