A description is given of 4 cases connected with pulmonary tumour in which the
signs of osteo-arthropathy suggest a diagnosis of pulmonary neoplasm. The author
draws attention to the incomplete forms of the syndrome: both the interpretation
and the main theories regarding the pathogenesis of Pierre Marie's pulmonary
osteo-arthropathy are briefly stated. If the osteo-arthropathy is accompanied by
arthralgia this is due to malignancy and rarely to suppurative or tubercw.v)us dis-
ease. Since the vagus nerve plays an important role in the osteo-arthropathy the
author proposes to sever the vagus nerve on the side of the affected lung (in
cases of inoperable carcinoma) and in other cases perform a resection of the lung.

ABSTRACT: It is necessary to develop cheaper heat-resi6ting &Uoys and a simple, 1
reliable method for cooling gas turbine elements subject to high temperatures
since the highest attainable initial gas temperature is determined in practice by
the permanent strength of the structural material employed, uhich diminishes with
increasing temperature. 7he thermal efficiency of a gas turbine and the strue-
tural dimensions are, in turn, considerably affected by the initial gas terperaturs
7he output of a gas turbine is therefore a function of the aggregate of efficiency
values of the compressor and the ccimbustion, c1mber as weU as the turbine. 2he

numerous alloys made from structural steel are reliable only up to 700-800C without
coollng. Further development may be divided into two main categories according to
the application of gas turbines:. 1) in planes, ships, automobiles. etc.. v&ere the
results obtained are very considerable; 2) in stationary installations, where
structural solutions, e.g., cooling of elements subject to high temperatures, as
well as metallurgic solutions, may contribute to further development, since
numerous factors hindering the development of mobile equipment may be disregarded.

TEXT: The study of reactions induced by fast monochromatic neutrons calls
for the knowledge of the spectral line shape of neutrons incident upon the speci-
men. For this purpose the influence of shape, size, and mAterial of a collimator
on the energy spectrum of 2.7-Mev neutrons was studied. The neutrons were ob-
tained from a (d,d) reaction on a 200-kev Cockro t-Walton accelerator. The'
neu *tron energy distribution was measured by a Li I scintillation counter and a
multichannel pulse-height analyzer. It has been established that clearer spectm
are obtained with long collimators made from an iron-paraffin mixture. it is
noted that the preferable coll.'Lmator shape is the double cone.
