TEXT: A new method of determining the cohesion of enamol conts t-

ABSTRACT: This is a brief report of the starting of a new experimental symmetrical
annular FM synchrotron (KF installation). It is a strong-focusing accelerator with
constant magnetic field, in which the time vaxiation of the magnetic field is replaced
by a radial increace of the field in accordance with the growth of the particle energy.
The accelerator was proposed by one of the authors (Koloirenskly, ZhETF v. 33, 298,
1957; Atomnaya energlya v. 3, 492, 1957) and its construction is described in detail
elsewhere (V. N. Kanunnikav et al., in: Trudy Mezhdunarodnoy konferentail po uskori-
telyam, Dubna, 1963 (Transactions of International Conference on Accelerators, Dubnap
19631 AtonLizdat, 1964, p. 653). The article describes briefly the magnet, the initial
operation, the accelerating system, the electron injection, and some of the prelimi-

ABSTRACT: A scheme is proposed for a simple gatIng, device which contains a 1450 pola-
rization rotator, a 450 quartz rotator, and a polazizer. A plane polarized light Deam
passes through the quartz rotator, the polarizer and the active substance wnere under
the applied field the polarization of the beam is mstored to its initial condition.
The reflected light is polarized identically as tfie beam leavinp the gate if, mtatf~d
450 more by the rotator, and is either carried away or is absorbed by the polarizer.
Requirements for an optical gate are maximum decoupling, minimum loss, minimum distor-
tion, minimum roflection, lightweight, and small size. The Faraday effect was studied
