It is shown that in earlier calculations of the transi-

Title Motor-food conditioned reflexes to a chain of stimuli in birds.
Periodical Zhur. vys. nerv. deyat., 5, 96-103, Jan/Feb 1955
Abstract Results of experiments on domesticated birds revealed that it is possible
to develop motor-food conditioned reflexes to a positive trinomial chain
of stimuli through the acoustic and optic analysors. In many Instances
development of a conditioned reflex is retarded because the conditioned
reflex seems to be inhibitive at first due to strong initial reaction
(a situation peculiar to birds). One table and tvo diagrams. Welve

when the field is di-rected along the a axis, which is the antiferromagnetism axis at
these temperatures. 7be magnetostriction deformation produced along the c axis was
lalso measured with the field applied along the a axis of the crystal in the tempera-
ture interval from 90 to 114K. 7he sign of the magnetostriction was different for
fields applied along the c and a axes of the crystal, and the magnetonctriction de-
i
creased at temperatures above 100K. The results are connected with the fact that the
threshold fields increase noticeably with increasing departure from the reorientation
temperature, and exceed the fields in which the measurements were made. The relative-
ly low threshold fields (-10 kOe) in the temperature interval -70 - 100K are connected
with the fact that the spontaneous magnetic moment can be readily rotated by the field
from the c axis to the a axis of the crystal, owing to the low values of the aniso-
tropy constant. When a magnetic field is applied along the b axis of the crystal, no
magnetostriction Is observed in the entire investigated temperature rainge, since the bi
axis to perpendicualr to the plane containing the antiferromagnet ~ft vector, and con-
sequently the field cannot cause flipping of the ironlublattices'knd lead to magneto-~
striction deformation in the crystal. It is notei-that It in easy to determine the
threshold field from the mgnetontriction vs. field curves. This Is particularly lib-
portant for thullum orthof*rrite, where It Is impossible to determine the threshold
field from the JwW in the magnetization curves during the instant of flipping of the
antiferromognatic sublattices. The authors thank Y, A. TImpform for mWlying the
alftle-crystal thulimm orthoforrite. Orig. &A. hasi 2 figures.

AM7MT: 7he authors observed an anomalous temperature dependence In the Magnetizao-
tim of thullwis orthoferrite. When the temperature vas reduced to 90K the magnetic
nool-t vas reoriented from the a axis to the a axis of the crystal. Below 90K, the
spontSMOUS magnetic moment of the single-crystal thullum orthoferrite remained ri-
gidly oriented along the a axis of the rhomble crystal. By plotting the rotary mo-
ments In the (001) plane of the single-crystal thullum orthoferrite at temperatures
78 to 4.2X.. the authors obtain,, from the rotary moment 4p - 90"j, the values of the
magnetization at different temperatures. 7he temperature dependence thus obtained
for the magnetization Is shown In Fig. 1. At 92K the spontaneous magnetization along

With further drop In temperature the magnetization do-
