TEX,"L: The article deals with the method of warm phgA2bAje Plosting, which
became an important method for the surface improvement or cutting tools during
the last few years. The phosphate coating proved to be more efficient than oth-_r
surface treatment methods, such as treatment In hot water or hot oil. Reference
In made to the choodca process occuring during the phosphating procedure and to
the chemical composition of the phosphating solution. A ccrrect phosphate cort-
Ing leads to s a) removal of the surface layer spoiled during the grindIng or
sharpening of the cutting tool; and b) formation of a hIgh-quality protective
layer composed of ox1dex and phosphates. The GDa applied this treatxnnt to dif-
ferent typen of cuttInC tools. Good results were obtained at drills. The !53?
also conducted *xperlments with different types of phosphate-coated tools. 7.ie
results are presented in Table 1. Because of its advantages. phosphate coating

Phosphate Coating - A Way of Increaning the Service Ure of Cutting Tools
Is r*coisoanded to be Introduced in Rumania. Figure 3 shows a phosphating lnsLal-
lation truilt at the Uglnolo "1.C. FrIou" (Plant) In SInala, which was used for
the acaomplishisent or exptrinents with threading tools, shaped tools, Oxcentric
bushings. etc. The experiences were carried out within the laboratomil Central
(Central laboratory) and the treated tools were tested at machines. running In
the serial production of the Plant. The experiments were conducted In the fol-
lowing mumrs a) dogreasing of' the tools In trlchlorethylene; b) rinsing in
running water at a temperature of 5 - IOOC; c) rinsing In mining water havirig
a temperature of 80 - 100OC; d) Ismersion In the phosphating solution, heats~d
to 95 - 97OC; and e) drying and conservation of the tools. The practical re-
sults of these eqwrlsonts are shown In Table 3. These results, however, did
not attain the values given In Table 2, duo to some causes, which can be easily
ellainated. There are 3 tables, 3 figures and 7 references: 2 Huminlan, 3
