compound w;.tr, Te 127. The reaction with an etLylene - air mixture (2.5 -
3% C2 H,,) occurred at c'1911C in a r-ontinuously operating apparatus (Refs.
2, 4). The purification of ~ .2H4 obtained by the reduction of ethanol is
described. Among otner things, also activated carbon of the types Ar'-5
(AG-3) and AC (AS) was used. The catalytic activity4wae determined by
measuring tne --onstant ki of the reaction rate of ethylene oxide

All military fliers should always be ready for ~:ombat.
The author suggests how this should be a2hieved by
training and gives good example of commanders. Stormovlk
actions during the war are described. Some names of
officers are mentioned.

TEXT: The composition of the gasoline fraction obtained from a liquid-
phase hydrogenation product frommazout of Ramashkin and Andizhan petroleum
was investigated In order to Improve the efficiency of hydrogenation plants.
The amount of the gasoline fraction, separated by fractional distillation in
a laboratory-scale column, was 26.1% of neutraloil, 0.67% (2.7% of the methane-
naphthenic fraction) of which were hydrocarbons boiling at 20 - 500C The

ABSTRACT: The results of laser ~flding of fillet joints of copper and L-62 silver coat-
ed brass with lKhI8119T st el, KOfsteel and copper are presented. The SU-1 laser %eld-.
er (shown in photograph) tas used to weld thin wires Ed < 0.1 mm] attached to semicon-
ductive and microelectronic devices. The unit power input is regulated by adjusting
various object lenses with focal distances of 10, 20, 40, and 50 mm. Unit power input
is calculated by the formula g = W21tF where W2 is the energy of radiation considering
the losses in the optic system in joules; t is the pulse time in sec and F is the fo-
cal area in cm2. The weld penetration and width are proportional to the maximum volt-

age of the condenser battery. This relationship is shown in a table for Uai steel
where focal distance is 20 mm. Another test was carried out on strips of UBA steel with
a thickness of 2.6 mm (surface condition of the 10th class in accordance with MqT
_7_"::"I inorder to determine the relationship between width and penetration of the
2
Geld, and the defocusing. These tests showed that when Af = 0.75, the weld panetration
was max h a 22 u. Overlap welding was carried out on copper witK L-62 brassi with
non-coated brass, lKhl8N9T stainless steel, KO low-carbon steel' farid-f inally on coppe
wires. Without stripping the insulation [MI) copper wire of d = 0.05 mm was welded to
a silver-coated brass rod of d = 0.5 mm. Neither of these specimens showed cracks in
the welds. However, microporosity was indicated in some of the specimens. Shear
strength tests of the welds were carried out on two types of welds: without stripping
the insulation from the copper wire and with bare wire. The first specimens had an
average shear strength of 25.3 kg/mm2 while for the second typepe, a shear strength of
26 kg/m,2. The small difference makes it feasible to recommend this welding process
without stripping the insulation. A comparative test of the laser-welded and brassed
joints was made. The latter showed an average strength 13% less than the welded
joints. The authors conclude that the laser-weld d joints have considerably better
mechanical properties than the soldered iointa. 'This is due to the smaller heat-af-
fected zone. Orig. art. has: 6 f~igures, 1 table.

ABSTRACT: The author gives a brief history of undersea exploration, starting
with the sixteenth century. He then describes in detail the first experiments or
the French captain Cousteau and his aides, as well as their present preparations
for a new experiment. He mentions the experiments of the American E. Link and
the Swiss mathematician H. Keller, who also built underwater "houses". The arti-
cle continues with a detailed description of Auguste Picard's underwater ex-
plorstion in his bathysphere and bathyscaph, the Trieste, in which he and his
aides attained & depth of 10,916 meters. Picard's son and an American researcher
repeated this performance. There follows a description of various methods of
