Gontoptokhizdat, 1961, 113 - 120) TEM The content and nature of organic sulfur compounds (SC) in the kerosene and solar oil fractions of petroleum in the oarbonaceous Bavlinskoy* deposits and in the Devonian deposits (DI - DII ) in the kinnibayevo area of the Romashkino deposits were determined. The SC were isolated chromatographically on silica gel and A12 0 3 with subsequent elution with petroleum ether, CCl V benzene, and ethanol. The sulfur content in the isolated fractions was determined and their ring structure Card 1/2 S/081/62/000/006/066/117 Sulfur and organic sulfur compounds ... The structural groups isolated from the Bav- linskoye kerosene were vacuum-fractionated with collection of % by volume. Chromatographing of the SC concentrate on Al 203 made it possible to isolate fractions with n20 D 1.49 - 1.52 and d20 0.93 - 0.97, oulfur 4 content 13.8 - 11.7%, which corresponds to 70 - 80% of SC. The SC content of the kerosene-solar oil fractions of Devonian petroleum deposits varies from 2 to 15% and of carbonaceous deposits from 7.5 to 22,~. The SC con- centrates isolated from the kerosene-solar oil fractions are of tw- typesi one corresponds to aromatic sulfides (I), the other to thiophanes (II). The ratio of I to II in Devonian petroleum is about 60 and in carbonaoeous petroleum about lal. [Abstracter's notes Complete translation. ,j Card 2/2 WNCWUAo N.Te. TITLEs Simple Electronic Simulating Device for the Forecas-1--o-f \IV Floods PERIODICALt Meteorologiya i gidrologiya, 1960, No. 8, pp 20 - 28 TEM Programs for the solution of problems in the field of flood- forecasts were made at the GGI and Gidroproyekt. A short survey is given of the analog computers. and it was found that for calculating flood forecasts, at water power plants, special simulators are the most useful, which have to solve one and the same problem several times. The problems to be solved in developing such electrical special simulators are pointed out. In 1958 such a device was developed at the Tsentrallnyy institut prognozov (Central Institute of Weather Forecasts). Upon this device, the calculation of non-steady water motion according to the method developed by G. P. Kalinin and P. I. Milyukov (Ref. 2) was based. In this method, the river or river-bed respectively is subdivided into a number of sections of certain length. In each section the e is a unique Card 1/3 Simple Electronic Simuiating 1,c-vice for the 8/050/60/000/008/002/002 Forecast of Floods B012/BO56 interrelation between the water volume W in the section and the quantity of drained-off Q water in its lower part. Such sections are described as characteristic. Calculation consists in solving the differential equations (1) and (5) for each of these sections. This manner of determination makes it possible to produce an electric simulator for one or else for several consecutive characteristic sections. Equations (1) and (3) are solved, and formula (4) is obtained. Also the circuit consisting of a resistance and capacity has such a formula (9), which contains the product RC-T, the time constant. The latter is analogous to the inflow rate of water in the characteristic section and plays the same part in formula (9) as i in formula (4). The simulator device was produced in twG variants in the institute mentionedt a) for a characteristic section, and b) for 6 of such sections. Fig. lb shows and describes the main circuit of the first variety. Fig. 2 shows the circuit, and Fig 3 the second variety. It is pointed out that this device may also be used for calculating other processes, the individual steps of which or the processes as a whole may be expressed by linear differential equations.
