Abstract A method for the quantitative analysis of 2-naphthal-6-
sulfonic acido 2-naphthol-T-oulfonic acid anct 2-naphthol-

ABSTRACT: The authors present a detailed contribution to pol:-'vo-
graphic investigations of hydroxi-triphenyl-metharie
dyestuffs. The literature mentions that the reduction oi,
the dropping mercury electrode of trihydroxy-triplienyl-
methane (aurine) and its substituents, proceeds izt two
distinct mono-electronic waves. The authors offer the
following electronic explanation: in mesomeric structure
1, the dyestuff loses its quinone configuration ar.d
acquires a positive charge on the central carbon ,:..tom
Simultaneously oxygen acquires a negative charge. DuLng
reduction an electron is taken up by the central carbon
atom, producing a free radical of structure H. In the
second phase an additional electron is taken up producing
the unstable form III, having a lone pair of electrons
with a negative charge, This is stabilised into the

two-step reduction is therefore explained by the existence
of a free radicle. The authors have studied the
polarographic behaviour under neutral, alkaline and
acid conditions. The most characteristic two-step waves
were obtained in a neutral medium whereas acidic
conditions suppressed it. Under alkaline conditions
a not very well developed one-step dielectronic wave
was obtained. The authors have established that basic
dyestuffs, such as malachite green, show analogous
polarographic properties to aurine. Two independent
mono-electronic waves were obtained under neutral
conditions. The authors have also established that the
peak of the polarographic waves depends to a high degree
upon the quantity of ethanole used as a solvent. They
conclude that a standard solution of aurine undergoes
a structural change, which manifest itself by decrease
Ca-rd 2/4 of peak of wave.

The division of coarctation of the aorta into child and adult types is not satisfactorv
and is better abandoned. Diagosis of coarctation of the aorta can be made from '
the clinical examination showing raised blood pressure in the upper halt of the body
and imperceptible pulse and unmeasurable blood pressure in its lower half. In a
rare deep form of coarctation of the aorta a 1.1.5 crn. long stenotic section was re-
placed by arterial graft from the common and external iliac arteries. The patient
died after 10 weeks as a result of haemorrhage from a ruptured aneurysm formed
on the graft at the site of the stump of the internal iliac artery. Tilree coarctations
of the aorta situated at the beginning of the thoracic aorta were successfully re-
sected and the continuity of the aorta was re-establiblied by end-to-end anastomos-
W. Two patients were operated upon in artificial hibernation and in 2 neurovegeta-
tive Inhibition was employed.

TMT: An approximate method for the calculation of the
components of the admittance matrix of high-frequency transistors
is presented. This is based on the measurement of the tran-
sistor characteristics at two different frequencies, f1 and f2'

TITLE: Multiple pass band filters matched on both sides

TEXT: The authors study the properties' of pass band fil-
ters consisting of On + 1) resonant circuits. A recurrence formula
for the admittance matrix of the filter is derived and the. proper-
ties of such filters are dincussed. It is stated that the amplitude
characteristic near the pass band is very steep and the bandwidth
can be easily varied. Graphe useful in the design of filters cam-
prising up to 9 resonance-circuits are givtn. Practical realization
of the filters and the results of their tests are-indicated.
