TITLE: Investigation of the friction properties of
sulphonitrided surfaces

TEXT: The report covers a part of a comprehensive project
on "Investigation of sulphonitrided layers with a high resistance
against seizing" and deals with investigation of the friction
characteristics of sulphonitrided surfaces which are treated
according to various methods, both in a bath and in a gaseous
medium. In the tests the following materials were investigated
according to the specification 6SN:12 013 (behanite), 12 o6o,
15 241 (Poldi CVZ) and 42 2424 (inoculated grey iron)~ A descrip-
tion is given of the equipment and of the test methods used. The
relative resistance against seizing of the investigated materials
after various treatments of the rubbing surfaces was determined
and the achieved results are summarised.

tABSTRACT: The invention concerns a method of making friction surfaces of machine
parts from iron alloys by diffuse six1furizing, selenizing or nitridizzing or a com-
bination of them, whereby boron uith a concentration of at least 0.03% by volume
in the active medium can be simultaneously diffused into the part. In creating
