TITLE: Polyglycidyl Cy&nurates as Heat-resistant Epo.y Resins
PERIODICAL; Plasticheakiye massy, 1960, No. 10, pp. 13-14
TEXT: The authors based on the U.S. Patent No. 2,809,942 to synthesize
an epoxy resin from eyanuric &aid and epichloro hy1rin (314 (Ve -Resin)).
[Abstracterls Note: The synthesis is not describedj. Number of epoxy
groups (29-32%), conter-t of inorganically bound chlorine (0-04-U.06%), ani
content of organically bound chlorine (5-6~) were determined. F.Ts resin
was polycerized either with raleic anhydride or phthalic anhydride. Its
thermanecharical properties wexe ex&mined and compared with those of
)A-6(ED-6) resin (a than resin). A better heat resistance (up to
170-1750C) and a smallor dielectricity loss were establlshe4 at high
tempera,tures, as coupa,zed with ED-6. There are 2 figures and 3 non-Soviet

The student T.V.Setkova participated in the gxpertw4ntat work.
Fillers wore selected fr3ja a number of matertats used in the
rubber and paint industries. Although Karahallite (quartz dust)

suitability or other filters. Karshattite is not always nuttabLe,
for example when good machiaabiLity t% required, Various other
special properties are required of compounds. The polyester ane
epaxide polyester compounds were based on unsaturated polyester

170 to 2(30'C. The rormuLations or the compouncts are given.
Fillers were introduced into the blended compounds until a
pro-determined consistency, or viscosity, was reached. The
consistancr was measured with a penetrometer at used for
petroleu= products but with a modified tip. Ifechanical properties

TEXTs The authors stu4ted the tensile and shear strength of adhebive -joints
nf various epoxy resins with dicyano diamide as hardener and various
fillers. For comparison, they tested the adhesive strength of joints g'.ued
with "Araltdit, Type 10. Besides, they determined heat resistance and
thermal aging of adhesive joints. The adhesives were produced on the basis
of epoxy resins of the types HL-4 (EV-4), 384 -4 (EVCh-4), and -) -44 (E-44),
as well as the precondensation product of 04 -6 (ED-6) epoxy resin with
dicyano diamide. Aluminum powder, powdered asbestos, powdered silica gel,
and Marshalite were used an fitlers. Tables 1 and 2 give the test results
obtained with the adhesives prepared. The authors glued crude-copper plates
100 by 25 by 1-56 au with a Sr. 4nell hardness of 115 kc/1=2. The plates were
piled up in a pressure device "Fig. 1), heatel to 1100 - 1200C, and

subjected to constant pressure. To harden the adhesive, the samples were
exposed to a temperature of 1300C for 4-5 hours. The tensile and shear
8trength/wa: testeg on a tensile-testing machine with an elongation rate
of 20 mm ml at 20 and 120'C (Figs. 2 and 5). It was found that adhesives
with 0.5 - 0-7 moles of dicyarto diamide per I epoxy group, as well as
adhesives with about 1 el. powdered asbestos, warrant maximum tensile and
shear strength of adhesive Jo-4nts. Adhesive joints obtained with the use of
adhesives with 7% aluminum po"der or 20-30% of Marshalite show lower tensile
and shear strength (up to 400 kg/CM2). It was found that some adhesives
produced with aluminum powder give joints which attain the tensile and
shear strength of joints glued with "Araldit, Typel". The adhesive with
IOA powlered asbestos gives a joint which is even stronger. There are

TITLEs Combination of Unsaturated Polyesters With Epory Resins
PERIODICLLs Plastichaskiye zmassy, 1960, No. 12, pp. 16 - 19
TEM The present paper gives results of investigaticna of some
properties of epoxy-polyester conpounds in dependence on their composi-
tion. They were shown to be uaaful for the production of laminated glass-
reinforced plastics. In this study, mainly the method of thermomechanical
curves devised by V. A. Kargin and co-workers (Ref.5) was applied. In
addition to the thermomechanical characteristics of the cured epoxy-poly-
eater compounds, also the temperature dependence of tan 6 was determined.
To produce these compounds, the polyester resins TTH-1 (PY-1), 3"0 (EXO)
(a polycondensation product of ethylene gljrcol, maleic anhydride and
oleic acid), andA)MCO (DEMSO) (a condensation product of diethylene
glycol, maleic anhydride, sebacic acid and oleic acid), as sell as the
epoxy resin 3A-6 (ED-6), were used. Besides, styrene, maleic anhydride,
quinhydrone (inhibitor) and benzoyl peroxide were added. The therio-

made on a modified device for the determination of the dimensional
stabillty under heat according to Vicat. The tan 6 was measured at a
frequency of 50 cps and a gradient of 1 kv/mm by means of a "MFU" ("IMP")

electrode and the guard ring were made of an aluminum foil. The tempera-
ture of the saraple was measured by means of a thermocouple. Henintance to
heat, limit of static flexural strength. and specific resilifnce of
laminated glaBs-reinforced plastics were determined according to
respective rOCT (GOST) standards. To deter=ine 'the effect of, compositJon
of epoxy-polyeoter compounds on their properties, the dependf!nce of
hardness and tan 6 at different temperatures on the content of epoxy resin
and maleic aahydride in the compounds was determinel (Figs.1-5). Figs'1-5
illustrate the resultarit tan 6 and hardnessee for several epoxy-polyester
compoun0s with equal content of styrene, benzoyl peroxile and quinhydrone.

ABSTRACT: The evaluation of the quality of boiler plate (e, to
25 mm thick) accordin& to GOST 5520-50 baced on tne
examination of fracture for lamiaations is discuase6.
On the basi:s of evidence collected on the Works imeni.
Illich during 'the insp--ction of the plate and special
investigations carried out in order to establish the
nature of laminations and the influence of testing
conditions on the results obtained the followinG
conclusions are drawn: 1) on evaluating the quality of
boiler steel accordinS to lwminations observed in the
fracture of tect specimens, it is necessary to
differentiate laminations of the first type, i.e. such
laminationf; which physically exist in the steel In the
form of breake of continuity before the tests, and
lamination.,; of the second type which are for--ed during
the break of the speci=en in places of liquatioas

On the Evaluation of the quality of Boller Plate 133-58-4-23/40
of the second type depanda on the temperature of the
test. spread of applying the load, structural state of
the metal of the specimen and other test conditions.
All factors promoting brittle fracture of the specimen
lead to a decrease of dinensions 4nd numtir of such
laminations or even to their aomplete dieippearance.
Therefore, the evaluatioa of the quality of steel rroa
the appearance of fraeture without taking into considera-
tion test conditions cannot be considered as reliable.
3) Therefore the test for fracture according to GOBI!
5520-50 Shouid be replaaed by an investigation of the
macrostructure of plate. 4) In-view of the development
of the production of thick plate GOaT 5520 should be
extended to plates up to 200 to 250 mm thick. In vlow
of a large ran&e of thickaess or boiler platen, scales
of macro-struatures for various thickness ranges shoald
be included into the standard. For plates 50 to 150 mm
thick the scale used on the works imeai Il'Alch (Fig-7)
oan be used. There are 7 figures and 2 references, both

heteropnelty of killed cr .3 (st.3) steel sheet Ingots of 7-ton weight and of
CT i22 K (St.22K) Ingots of 16.5-ton weight. The steels were melted In a basic

rolled into stabs 500 x 250 ~. Four tempLets were cut Cron
each slab and then cut into strips from which test specimens were
made. Mon-metalLic inclusions were determined metallographi:ally

There is a tendency for sulphur to be shifted towards the po.sitive

of the metal of the hcad part of the ingots was observed. No
noticeable effect or direct current on changes in the content and
distribution or nitrogen in the rolled metal was observed. It
was esteblished that the content of hfdragen in the shrinkage
head decreases during crystal lisation of the ingot heated with a
direct current of reverse polarity and increases with direct
polarity (minus on the electrode). The mechanical properties of
the metal of the ingot teemed with heating by current of direct
polarity are most uniform throughout the whole volume of -he stab.
The specific gravity of the metal of all the ingots was atmost
the same. The pickling ability of the metal (weight loss of
cylindrical specimens in a solution of 65 wt. parts of I(C-
Z5 wt. parts of H2SO4 and 10 wt. parts of water at 70 qC during
40 minutes) along the whole slab is the highest on heating with
direct current of "straight" polarity and lowest on heating with
direct current of reverse polarity. on heating with alternating
current of an industrial frequency the quality af the ingot metal
was better than that of the "blank" ingot and was nearly the same
an an heating with direct current of "straight" polarity.

TEXTs The results of an investigation of the structure,
chemical and physical non-uniformity of two sheet ingots (9 and
a.2 tons) of a chromiumnickelmolybdenum steel are described.
The steel was ameltod from a cold charge in a 75 ton basic open
hearth furnace. The metal was preliminaeily deoxidised in the
furnace with a blast Curnace Cerrosilicon (calculated to
introduce 0.24% of Si) and finally in the ladle with 75% ferro-
iLicon and aluminium (4oo g/t). Both ingots were teemed Cron the
:
ame heat (0-32% C, 0.017% S and 0.015% P) and were top teemed
with an addition of 15 kg of lunkerits. The ingots differed in
their conicity (8.2 ingots wide face 1.4%, narrow 3.5%. 9-ton
ingot, 2.07 and 5.15% respectively). one Longitudinal and three
transverse templete were cut from each ingot for testing*

It was found that the two ingots were similar as regards the
nature of the crystallination zones. The chemical composition of
the metal and the distribution of oxide inclusions was sufficiently
uniform in the upper and middle levels along the ingot height.
At the botton tevel a actice&ble decrease in the carbon cancen.ra-
tion and an in-:~3ase in the concentration of oxide Lnelusions was
observed, The axial and non-&xial segregation was insignifiCant
in'both ingots. The nechanic&I properties were highest for the
wirface layers of the ingots (tensile and impact strength). in the
central zones of the upper and middle levels a decrease in the
mechanical properties, partituierly plasticity, was observed, The
structure and the quality of both ingots were satisfettory. In
view of the stmilarity of the quality of both Ingots, the use of'
8.2 ton ingots (with lower conicity) Is recommended; it gives a
higher yield of rolled inetal. There are ~ figures, I table and

TEXT: A method is proposed of adding powers in transistors,
not by their paralleL connection
(p, but bK connecting the necessary
nmber of separate amplifiera roper p asing must be preserved) to
a common magnetic core. Amplifiers are c - ipled onty carjax, by the
magnetic circuit. Input and output circuits can be d.c. separated.
The advantage of the proposed method consists in reducing the influ-
ence of the spread of traquistor parameters on the operation of the
Amplifier, by comparison irith the parallel, connection* and hence in
a considerably increased operational reliability of the amplifier.

The use of three amplifiers with 6 transistors permitted Ane to ob-
tain a power of 65-70 W in the loa t . with 24 V supply; amplitude and
frequency characterittias were satisfactory. The amplifier worked
continuously during hours- the form factor was < 10%. tt is
noted that disconnecting one of the transistors in one am of any
amplifier, operating in class C, does not substantially upset the
operation of the stage concerned- the proposed method can also be
applied in building amplifiers with common emitter and with common
base operating in 1-arious classes of amplification. Z-Abstracter's

PERIODICUt Zhurnal fizicheakoy khimii, Y. 55, no, Ig 1961, 158-163
TEXTt A study has been cade of the cathodio polarit,Ltion during the
formAtion of an Fe - Co alloy- under conditions where :iydrogen is already
liberated. Curves of partial polarization were drawi for the purpoffe.
The curve of total polarization was drawn, and the airrent fraction of the
two components was determined for each potential by t chemical analysis.
The crevc of partial polarization was drawn therefro-s for each component.
The elecl;rolyte was a solution of 0.63 mole/1 CoSO 4' 0.62 mole/1 Few 40
10 g11 NILCI, 50 C/1 boric acid. The expericents wert conducted for
PH 3,5, 1o69 and 1-5. The volume of hydrogen liberated was measured.
In addit:4.on to determining the current fraction consimed for the separation
of the motals and of E 2' the authors also calculated, from the differencep

Experimor.tal results fit the assumptionaof the theory of slow ion dis-
charge. The polarization curve of H 21 as a function ?- f (log iff2), was
found to be a straight line with the inclination anC.'.e 2-3RT/b(zF. The ex-
change current on the cobalt-iron alloy was calculatod, and the following
results vere obtained for log I (a/c~'e)t -5-55 at 250C; -5.23 at 40OC;

-4.92 at 550C. The activation energy of the discharge of H+ ions amounted
to 9.1 kcal/Mole- At PH - 3-5 the whole current is .,onsuaed for the dis-
charge of Co and Fe ions. An increase of acidity ezj,.aile not. only the
liberation of H2, but also a further process, which ,ras identified as
Fe3+---~Fe2+. The appearance of Fe3+ In the solutio:2 is caused by an in-
crease of the oxidation potential of 02 in strongly acid solution. A. X.
