3-bonzylbonzidorv:) C during the dehydration of 1,3-diphanyl-2-(21-nar~-ityl)-2-o.-:Zr,-lu-
taric acid. The present investigation aims at the olarification of the behavior
during oxidation of Vie )-bonzyl rnibutituted indonas and of Via 3-oVbonzfluoronone.
To toot the possibility that t-io products of such an oxidation could contriLuto to
tho clarification of the structure of analogmisly constructed corq)ounds. the authors
used an modols cortain easily accessible analogs with ;aum structure, I.e., the -
2-phanyl-3-bonzfluorenone (D. Dalov, J. Pharmacy and Pharmacol., 1, 1949, 401) and
4-phonyl-3-cmY-1,2-bonzfluorenono (Ch. Tvanov, Corq3t. rend. Acad. bul-. 5ci., 7, 1954,
29)o The articlo gives experimental details and theoretical interpretation of the
oxidation by rnwis of potassium pornanganate of the two above wntiqn9d compounds.
