dependence has a peculiar steplike nature. These steps a~e in P~-

the dissolution velocity o� sodium re~ains constan~. '~hese
are off diff�erent length and height. The reduction of the velocity
affYer ~he third step and the subsequent rapid acceleration o� the
reaction also are peculiar. The peculiar nature of this
may only be due to the common action of ~ater and butyric acid
upon the metal. First of all wa~er is supposed to react with

The investigation has established that the reason for the formation
of longitudinal cracks in steel ingots are high pouring temperature and high pour-
ing speed. At a pouring %~mperature of 1,550�C and pouring time of 4.4 sin, no
cracks were observod on 2.3 ton ingots.
