TITLE; Comparative Tests on Bundles of Stator Stampings with
Different Kinds of Insulation.

(USSR)
ABSTRACT: In some factories making small numbers of motors the stee.'
sheets are varnished by hand, and improved methols of in-
sulating the sheets are required. Accordingly stator
stampings for different motors ranging from 1.2 kW to
6.5 kW were insulated by various methods. The effects
upon the stampings were then compared by measuring the
losses on bundles of finished stampings, using a watt-
meter method. The types of insulation compared were the
natural oxide film, a special oxidised film, and varnish.
A diagram of the test circuit is given in Fig 1e The
maximum flux density was 10000 Gauss. The values of the
respective losses cases are displayed in Fig 2; the
specially-oxidised sheets gave the best results and the
Card 1/2 varnished sheets the worst. This is partly because the

formation of the oxide film is accompanied by annealing
of the sheets. Moraover, varnish takes up more space than
oxide film. Use of oxide film would economise varnish and
out down labour costs as well as improve the motor
characteristics, but would entail capital expenditure.
An economic evaluation is required. There are 2 figures,
1 table and 4 Soviet references.

stable austenitic Cr-Mn steel (0. 21% C, 10. 84% Cr, 10. 3% Mn, 0. 28% Ni, 0. 31% Si, 0. 211,7o TI,
0. 16% N) displayed the best results: weight loss over 12 hr was :9 10-12 nig compared with, e.g.
890 mg for 18-8 low-carbon Cr-Ni steel. Evidently the effect of cavitation is associated with
structural and phase transformations In the surface layer of the built-up metal under the im-
pact of the high-yelocity jet of water; in carbon, chromium, and chromium-nickel built-up
metals this leads to local disintegration associated with the presence of ferrite (coc -phase),
whereas in metastable austenitic 30]KhIOGIO steel this leads to greater wear resistance of the
surface layer. As exemplified by 30KHOGIO steel, in order to have a satisfactory cavitation
resistance# the built-up metal must have the structure of an unstable Cr-Mn austenite capable
of gaining in strength during plastic deformation (caused by the impact of the jet of water)
owing to not onlywork hardening but also to the formation of stronger structural components
Qr-a~, and g:p s transformations leading to the segregation of high-strength phases -- marten-
site and co-phase). Orig. art. has: 7 figures, I table.
