TEXT: Techniques are given for using radioisotopes to study the oiliness
of mineral oils on a laboratory installation and in an-automobile engine.
The advantagea and disadvantages of this method of evaluation are
enumerated, and it ir ihown that it is particularly suitable for the

The operation is based on the principle established by Duplay for the cure of hypo-
spadlas: the canal is spontaneously restored if in the subcutaneous space a flap of
skin or mucosa is left which becomes the centre of epithelia lization of the future
canal. The value of external urethrotomy in the treatment of stenosis has been
well known since the time of Syme Attention is drawn to the fact that the gap in
the urethra formed after longitudinal section of the canal must be covered by a
healthy and well vascularized skin flap. It is believed that the method of 'urethro-
tomy with covering by a skin flap' is very suitable for the treatment of extensive
and multiple stenoseB of the anterior urethra. The report is based on 7 cases with
satisfactory results.

In 6 cases of complete loss of the urethra the foll,)wing operative tet nniqueb lhq,re
applied: ( ) plastic repair with a pedicled flal, from the anterior vagirial wall gave
unsatisfactory results; it was only in a ( ase of large urethral fistula that .1 Cap
from the labium majus proved effii actouti. (2) Interposition of the ulertis Was 1W11 v
done successfully and on( e with partial Success. Other cases failed. bet ause the
uterine fundus retracted upward behind the symphysis. (3) 0( 1 iusion of the bladder
with construction of an infra-symphyseal funnel with a free epidermal graft (1%vo-
stage operation) led to subsequent stenosis of the t anal, and or( asionall) to :otal
oc( lusion. (4) In one case, a modift( ation of the last-mentioned inethod was applied,
with a double-pedicled flap taken front the left labium maju8. 'Ihe upper pedicle
was situated next to the clitoris, the lower one near the posterior ( ummissui e.
After the wound had healed, the lower pedicle was ligated. at first for a few minut-
es and then gradually longer, so as to force the flap to adapt itself to vas( ulariza-
tion from the upper peclicle only. The main operation was done almost 5 weeks
a"
I t -r. A tunnel was made under the symphysis under digital control, the finger
being introduced into an existing cystostorny opening. The lower pedit lc of the flap
was cut and 2 sutures were attached to the free end, whi(h were then used to pull
the flap through the canal, and sutured to the cystostomy opening. through which
the urine was drained. No catheter was inserted into the new canal. Two weeks
later, the outer orifice was widened with a small pedicled skin flap sutured into an
incision, because the opening tended to become occluded. Four weeks later the
cystotomy was closed. The results, anatomical and functional, were excellent.

furnace simultaneously raised its production cajacity
equally with the rise in weight of the charges to the
highest possible load, The experiments had the follow-
ing results: 1) Higher charge weights result in a higher
productive capacity (tons/hour) of the furnace. In some
furnaces, productive capacity rises only to a certain
amount of thE charge weight; 2) The rise in weig-t of the
charges decreases the consumption of thermal unNs (kcal/
ton). It could not be established whether supercharging
would be negative to the consumption of t-ermal units;
3) A comparison of the experimental results of both quo-
ted dependencies is possible only wit'-. similar technical
conditions of the furnaces; 4d) The mos. rational method
for a mathematical pick-up of the abovc-mentioned depend-
ence will be the percentage of tKc changE in pro(,,uctive
