of the zero-spin amplitude is due to the effect of the repulsive hard core
in nucleon-nucleon interaction. In first Born approximation the spin
amplitude F(O) corresponds with the spin-orbit potential of nucleon-
nucleus interaction, as is shown by comparing experimentally obtained data
on NN-scattering with the phase shift analysis. Between 40 and 660 Mev
the energy dependence is described satisfactorily by
A 1 (0) = (7,20 0,20) / E,,. .. + (4,68 0, ~6)- 10' E,,. ..,-

10 cm. The amplitude A describes mainly the energy dependence of the
total cross sections of nucleon-nucleon interaction (averaged over the
isotopic spin). The energy dependence of A R(0) leads to the relation
0(0) ;/(k(yt/4x) 2 for the nucleon-nucleus scattering cross section through

the angle 0 0. It also implie's 4e existence of a pure shadow scattering
at N400 Mev in the lab system. 71(0) is positive throughout the energy
range investigated. Hence up to 660 Mev the real part of the spin-orbit
potential V SR of nucleon-nucleus interaction has the same sign as in the
shell model. The parameters of the optical potentials, determined from the V
nucleon-nucleon scattering, are tabulated. The data obtained on nucleon-
nucleon scattering indicate 'that the real part of V SR diminishes with in-
creasing energy. According to nucleon-nucleon experiments the imaginary
part of V SR is likely to be non-zero. There are I figure and 1 table.

TITLEs Excitation of C 12 nuclei by 660-Mev protons
PERIODICALs Akademiya nauk SSSR. Doklady, v. 145, no. 6, 1962, 1249-1252
TEXTt A graphite rod, 1 cm thick, was bombarded by protons having
energica of 660 + 3.9 hiev and a flux density of about 3-10 9 P/cm 2 see.
The protons scat7ered through 4.2, 5,2, 7*0, 9.1 and 10-70 were deflected
magnetically and then conducted through two quadrupol-c lenses and a
collimator into an ionization chamber with three scintillation counters.
The inelastic diffusion scattering cross section for 70 is 130-10- 27cm1/ste-
rad. The maximum onorgy distribution of the Inelastically rt~ttered
protons is connected with the energy from the giant photorenonance of the

the bound nucleons may cause stable collective excitations of the nucleus,
i.e. spin, isospin, an d spin-isospin waves (ZUTF, 43, no. 8, 1962).
Giant photoresonance excitation and excitation of the nucleus by spin
waves of the giant resonance energy may set in simultaneously. This is
probably what causes the widening of the curve. There are 3 figures.

detail. On account of the proton spin precession the longitudinally

is due to the anomalous magnetic moment of the proton. The longitudinal

TEXT: The differential elastic scattering cross section of 660.1dev
protons by carbon nuclei was measured in the range (1.80 Ok 0 a' 90) where
nuclear and Coulomb scattering interfere. The polarization of the
scattered protons was also measuredo and the results were used to cal-
culate the scattering amplitudes and the corresponding nuclear potentials
of the optical model. Determination of the energy spectra of the
scattered protons shows that inelastic competes with elastic scattering
at small angles also. Reliable results on elastic scattering cross sec-
tions at high proton energies can only be obtained if inelastioally
scattered protons are carefully separated. Here this is done by deflea-
tion in a magnetic field. Fig- 4 gives the differential cross section

ABSTRACT: The lower limit of size of mi..,, ra' i-,,rains wh,.c' --an be
effectively separated by flotation is 10 5p The
in the flotation of 3ralns witn a size beyond this limil
is insufficient and their extraction is inconsideratly smai:
That is why precious ores of many deposits are nonwcrkable;
in several dressing plants fine muds are practically not
enriched,. There are a number of opinions on the cause of
this poor separation (Ref 1). T~~.ezqe causes are due to phys''al
factors; one of the most wide-spread factors is the low
probability that the grains collide with air bubb:es T-e
finest grains are carried away by the water current and
do not touch the bubbles long and intimately en ugh to te7Lme

in suspension by reduction of the pressure above the
auspension. The possibility of using this proces3 for g-rains
below 10p is denied; today the application of this procesi
is practically abandoned (Ref 10). In the course of ex.
periments with grains below 10p the authors compared tne
two methods of: Vacuum and mechanical flotation In tre
case of mechanical flotation air is dispersed by t--e :zIec'n-ani --as-

methods. The process is described. Figures 2,3 show character

authors found that the vacuum method improves flotation

PERIODICAL: Tr. Gos. n, -i. i proyektn. in-ta azotn. prom-sti, 1956, Nr 5,

ABSTRACT: The authors present designs for rotor-type rectification columns
(glass or metal) with concurrent mechanical turbulence stimulation
in the liquid and the vapor; these designs were developed and tested
in the Process and Equipment Laboratory of the GIAP (Gosudarstven-
nyy institut azotnoy promyshlennosti - State Institute of the Nitrogen
Industry~ in operations on standard and working mixtures the
columns exhibited an elevated effectiveness with a comparatively
small hydraulic resistance. The angular speed of the rotor did not
exceed 1400 rpm. The design of a multicylinder rotor rectification
column with opposite-sense rotation of adjacent cylinders is des-

advisability of the application of rotor rectification columns with mechanical
turbulence stimulators for vacuum rectification. Bibliography: 9 references.
