TITLE: The Dependence of the Technical Properties of a Magnesite
Fire-Resisting Mixture on Certain Technological Factors

ABSTRACT: The author states that at present the burning zone of rotary
kilns is lined with chrome-magnesia bricks, laid upon flat
or corrugated iron pieces or on a magnesia mixture. The life
of the lining of the latter system is 20 to 30 percent longer
than that of the first. For an improvement in the quality of
the above mixture the dependence of its properties upon the
composition must be known. The properties will depend on the
burning of the magnesite, the mineralogical composition,
grade of pulverization, storage duration of the pulverized
filler, modulus and concentration of the water glass, and
upon the conditions and period of storage of 1.he mixture.
The effect of a preliminary burning of the magnesite was
verified for mixed masses of the material with magnesite

The content of magnesium oxide used in the material varied
from 98.97% (fused magnesite) to 81 - 83% (caustic magnesite
of various batches). All materials were pulverized to grain
5 to 15% of over 60/4, 65 to 75% of 60 to 10 A 25 to 35% of
less than IO)t, including 6 to 8% of grain belc 11 1/4. The
author reviews all possible physico-chemical transformations of
mixtures able to influence strength, thermalresistance, dur-
ability, storage conditions, and concludes that the ground
magnesite MPK powder represents the beat filler, and that the
water glass with a modulus of 2.7 and a density of 1.25 is the
best binder.

Other researchers have demonstrated that the most effective method of
immunization is often the intradermal or cutaneous administration of
specific antigen (G.F.-Lang, D.a. Fletnev, A.M. Bezredka, Zabolotnyy,
Korobkova and V.Ya. FI'bert). To determine the part which the skin
integuments play In immunogenesis, subject author studied the action
on them of specific and non-spacific stimuli alike, including bile,
hot water bottles, electric current and mustard plasters. The tests
were performed on rabbits and white mice. Non-specific stimuiation of

teriae, Salmonella typhosa and Staphylococci led to a change in the
general and immune response of the body. Non-specific stimulation of
immunized animals at a period when their immunological reactions were
on the decline, in fact boosted the immune response. This was shown
not only by a rise in the agglutinin titer and the phagocytic activity
of the leukocytes but also by intensification of the serumis protective
power. OverstImulation, i.e. when the stimuli exceeded the body's
general physiological threshhold values, had an inhibiting effect on
the protective response. Novocain block and indUced narcosis invalidated
the effects of stimulation. The author views the change in immune
response under the effects of non-specific stimulation as a change in
the general reactivity of the body, governed by the nervous system.
The skin's receptor mechanism appear to play an essential part in per-
ceiving stimuli from the external environment which can lead to a
change in the general and immune response of the body.

Heated typhoid vaccine was given orally and subcutaneously to rrdce in ono
and. two steps. In single subcutaneous inariunization the trean imrmnizing do de
ranged between 0.1-0.88 billion cells and in oral admirikstration the Mean
iriwnizing done wan 400~-500 times the subcutaneous dose. Two immunizatio0s

ABSTRACT:
Reasons for the noneffectiv9ness of enteral scrub typhus vaccine have recently
been discovered. When the vaccine reaches the diSestive tract, digestive
enzymes cause it to lose come its immunological properties. Experiments
conducted by the authorz showed that tic antibody titer after seven days
in rabbits immunized with heated vaccine was five times higher than in
rabbits receiving two injections of vaccines preheated with stomach flu ds.
-To protect the vaccine from digeative Juices, it was encloacd in gelatine
capsules coated with hydrolyzed fat plus stearine treated with formalih..
