ABSTRACTz According to Florin (Ref 8,9] the deformation of the ground
skeleton is the slowly arising deformation which originates by
the relative diaplacement of the solid particles and by the
destruction of inter-nal (camenting) bindings inder external
load. The paper -onta-nB the description of an experimental
examination of the applicability of the theory of elasti,-
and creeping bodies proposed by Maalov [Ref 12] and
Aruty-anyan [Ref 131 . The filtraticn phenomena were neglected
in the examination. It was stated that under compression and
without lateral expansion the connected ground follows the
theory mentioned above. The experiments have been carried out,
however, with ground of disturbed structure (i.e. of non-

ABSTRACT: In a series of earlier publications f-Ref 4,5,62 the author
investigated experimentally the creeping of the skeleton of a
connected ground during a compression. Here he used samples of
ground of 10 and 20 mm height. Durin the years 1957-1958 the
admissibility of the assertions of 7Ref 4,5,6-7 was ezamined by
an investigation of samples of different magnitudes (h=6o,
0 -70 mm; h-6o, 0.210 mm etc.), and especially the influence
of the side friction and the water filtration during the
compression was considered. The results of this examination
are communicated in the present paper and .t is stated that the
use of samples with h-10 and 20 mm i2 admissible For kinds of

and 0.75 kg/cm 2 during 15 days~ The experiments were carried
out in the Institute of Building Materials and Buildings of
the Academy of Scienees of the Armenian SSR in 1955. It was

this book. An article by N.Kh. 1vanov, deals with a new cast Iron welding
method developed by the author with the assistance of electrowelder G. A.
Pirozhanko, and called "cold electatevelding of cast iron by means of a metal
electrode with an indirect arc action." As the title indicates, the arc
acts only indirectly on the welded metal passing between the electrode and
the build-up metal. Such welding insures shallow fusion of the cast iron.
The formation of a cementite surface layer is either absent or limited to a
very thin layer of.not more than 0.2 mm.,, ff-kin for easy mechanical
working. No persapalities are mentioned. There am no references.
