TITLE: On the problem of the measurement of the characteristic function
of a stationary ergodic process

TEXT: Dealing with the measurement of the characieristic Nnetion of
stationary ergodic processes, the author shows first how the argument interval
must be chosen so that the characteristic function should be unambiguously de-
termined by the results of measurements, i.e. by the readings. The expression
underlying the design of the device for the measurement of characteristic func-
tions of ergodic processes is

theorems for the characteristic function and the probability density, the author
shows that the 1 iml ted -spectrum characteristic function .5:~'(s) Is fully determinod
by its instantaneous values measured at Intervals~-i/xm - 6 s, 6 s depending thus
on the maximum instantaneous value of the signal x M which occurs In the communi-
cation system. He deduces an expression giving)D(s) in terms of A s, and applies
this expression to a practical case. He also deduces two formulae linking the
measured values of the characteristic function respectively with the probability
density of the investigated random process and the one-dimensional integral law
of the distribution of probabilities, as well as a set of formulae linking the
measured values of the characteristic function with the distribution moments.
The accuracy of the deduced formulae was checked and found Liatisfactory. There is

Abstract Fb-bbits were intravenously inoculated with marked p32
erythrocytes; 20-30 minutes after the injection, a
shock was effected in the animals by pulling at their
mesentery. In the state of a 4th degree shock, the
animals were killed. The tissue activities (TA) of the
liver and of the kidneys were not changed. The tissue
activity of the spleen was 0.2 percent of the administe."ed

The device is made on the basis of a blocking generator circuit. The converter
includes a power supply source, a photodiode, a transformer, and a diode-capac-
itance temperature compensation ladder network. The design simplifies the device
and broadens the frequency range of the pulses being generated. The collector
electrode of the photodiode is connected to the negative terminal of the power
supply source through the transformer primar-

ABSTRACT: This article is a report of the first Soviet attempt
to obtain and chromatographically purify chlorophyll c from algae.
A method for obtaining this compound in large quantities from dry
algae was developed at the tInstitute of Biochekstry, AN SSSR, and
the Laboratory Biophysics and Isotopes,AN BSSR. There were no
differences between the pigment obtained from dried algae and that
obtained from fresh plants. If dried brown algae (Foucus and Cysts-
seira) were used, all the pigments present In the plant mass were ex-'
tracted with acetone containing aqueous ammouLal from this extract

chlorophykl a and part of thecarotenoido.were removed by extraction
with p4troleum et~her; the re*sidual pigments were paper chromatographod
from the cond'ensed ethyl etifer solution; the main difficulty con-
sisted in separation of chlorophyll c and pheophorbide a, since the
pigments contain no phytol and*have similar chromatographic proper-
ties. The best separation was achieved by using a mixture of gaso-
line (bp 95-105C),patroleum ether (bp 40-60C), and isopropanol in
the ratio of 5ilsl/2. The chlorophyll c content in Cystoserira is
3.5 times higher than in Fucus, constituting 0.4 mg of pigment in
g dry weight of algae. A slightly modified method had to be used
for the diatomic algae Phaeodactylum trLcornutum because of splitting
iolf chlcrophyll a by chlor~phyllase in the cells. The final separa-
LtLon from pheophorbide was completed as above. Repeated chromatogra-
phic purification produced practically pure chlorophyll c. The pig-
ment is insoluble in organic nonpolar solvents and soluble in polar
solvents. Its solution in acetone is ememld 'green with a scarlet
fluorescence. It forms ,a copper-red sediment 85Z ethanol, in which
hexagonal crystals wsre observed. The pigment is rather stable. The
absorption and lumineseenca spectra of the pigment and its pheophytin
were obtaLned. The pigment is capable of association hich is im-

80% of the total plant-synthesized organic substance is produced by

ABSTRACT: Description of the hydraulic conveyor installation, the
physicochemical properties of solid pulp constituent, the equip-
ment of the pulp lines and of the pulp pumping station, the nature
of the pulp's motion, operational experience with the pulp lines,
and the regulating and measuring equipment of the station. When
a suction dredge with an output of 3600m3/hr is employed, the
40rn3 pulp storage tank, as well as the electric motors, rated at
750 kw (for pump dredges of 1100 rnm in diameter) . and 900 kw
(for a diameter of 1250 mm), recommended by the M. 1. Kalinin
plant, are evidently inadequate. At a pulp flow of 3600m3/hr, a
Card I/Z pulp line 800mm in diameter carries a constant layer of sludge

only 300mm deep throughout the line, which points to the
irrational utilization of the available cross sectional area of the
pipe line. In order to improve the wear resistance, components
of the suction dredges should be coated with rubber or with
abrasive materials.
