Abstract: deficient in animal protei4 intended for chickens
aged up to 4 weeks, this deficiency was made up by
adding procaine penicillin and chlortetracycline
separately or jointly to the rations. The absence
of these antibiotics in the feeds, as well as the
addition,of streptomycin, was causing a decrease in
the weight of chickens. At 8 weeks, deficiency in
animal protein was remedied only by penicillin and
had no influence upon the weight of chickens. Like-
wise, at 11 weeks, penicillin alone was making up
for the deficiency of animal protein. The action
of streptomycin and chlortetracycline was not pre-
cisely ascertained. The results obtained also show
that the addition of animal protein'to the feed of
chickens over 4 weeks old is not a requisite. Anti-

TITLE: Characteristic Features in the Beta Phase Decay in Zirconium Alloys.
PERIODICAL: Inshenerno-fisicheskiy zhurnalq 19609 Vol. 3, No. 4P PP. 95 98
TEXT: The data known frou'publications and obtained by the authors indicate a
relation between stability of the beta-phase In sirconius alloys and concentration
of the outer *Isctrons.-It is shown that the degree of stability.of the beta-phase
and the composition 'of the alloys, In which the omega-phase.is fox-bed in hardening,
depends to a considerable extent on the ooncentrat4on of the outer electrons in
the alloy. For this reason chroal" and molybdenum ljost have a stabilizing offeot
on,the beta-phasog tw1ce as strong as that of niobiun or vanadium. In the present
,_ease zirconium alloys with 15 % by weight of Nb and such with 10 % by weight of No
were, inventigated. The experiment in briefly described. It showed that the depon-
deuce of the physical proportion of hardened zirconium alloys with 15 % Nb and of
suoh.with 10 0 No on the tmerature of heating in not monotonic. The experimental
data concerning the alloy th 10 % No are given in Fig. 1; the data conce, ning

TITLE: Gasoline injection in the GAZ-12 engine
PERIODICAI: AvtomobilInaya promyshlennost', no. 10, 1960, 4 - 7
TEXT: On the basis of a standard carburettor from the rA3-12 (GAZ-
12) enginep NAMI endeavored to produce a prototype engine with di-
rect gasoline injection. Its,purpose was to obtain maximum power
and economy. The feed system of the experimental engine was formed
by a aigh pressure 6-plunger gasoline pump with its supply piston
pump and Vacuum regulator# nozzle# valve tube and fuel filter. Two
variants of cylinder heads were designed. The location of the nozz-
le over the exhaust valve is important with regard to cooling the
hot zoneq improved evaporation of fuel and favorable conditions for
mixing. Automatic regulation of the mixture was accomplished with
a diaphragm type vacuum regulatort connected to the e6ke tube. A
detailed.description and account of their operation are given. The

Gopline injection in the eos D270/D301
system is provided with sufficient regulation and with the necessa-
ry means for correcting the mixture in relation to the operating
conditions. The experiments began with the investigation of the ex-
perimental cylinder headq a compression ratio of 6.7 and the nozzle
in the axis. The engine worked best at an injection angle of 650,
when the engine developed 61 hp at 29000 rpm with a consumption of
240 g/hp-hour. The engine worked abnormally with injection during
the compression cycle. When angles are larger than 900p too short
duration produces bad mixing; this variant of injecttion results
in higher power but lower fuel economy. The engine with a standard
heat, 6.2 compression and nozzle over the cylinder (injection angle
650) worked steadily with markedly enriched mixtures. The engine
worked much better with the nozzle located above the exhaust valve.
Experiments demonstrated that the most suitable moment of injection
is to start it during suction at 250 after top dead center. Increa-
se of this angle leads to over-rich regulation. This confirms the
findings of various investigations th;5A optimum injection is in the
first half of the suction cycleo The needie nozzle proved to be the
best type, particularly from point of view of fuel economy$ because

It gives better mixing, The experimental chamber is superior in
economys, whereas the standard chamber provides more power; the for-
Par ensures a better mixturep but the latter is superior from a
---ihermodynamical point of view due to the lower surface area/volume
ratio. As far as the composition of mixture is concerned, the opti-
mum requirements of the GAZ-12 engine with direct injection are re-
lated to operational conditionsp as in the cart~urettor engineo The
"average" setting ensures a regulation that is less rich than the
optimum in.the range of 1000-1500 rpmv richer for 2500-3000 rpm and
practically optimum in the range 1500-2500 rpm. Optimum regulation
for the whole range of speed and load conditions can be optained
only with special tuning and by relating the characteristic of pump
fuel feed to the requirements of the enginep corresponding adapta-
tion of the inlet systemg etc. Direct injection of the GAZ-12 en-
gine without basic modifications gave an increase in engine power
and torque while maintaining fuel economy# There are 5 figures and
1 table.

Abstract The venous pressure (VP) of 160 pationts was measured
during operations (alimentary tract resection, stomach
resection, appendicitis etc.j. Under ether-oxygen
anaesthesia the rise in venous pressure was noted during
the stage of deep sleep. The arterial pressure (AP),
rose insignificantly, the breathing increased in frequen-
cy. In spinal anaesthesia, VP falls sharply; in epidural
--esthesia there is a fall in VP, which returns to level
with ether administration; in local there is no change
in VP. In cooling 0 patients) with a favorable course
of annesthesia the difference in VP and AP fluctuations

Has many advantages in comparison with telescopes with external
focusing; in spite of small dimensions it provides a high mangnification
power and its position of the aiming axis is practically stable; its weak
point is the variability for the focus of the equivalent lens. A formula
for range determination by range finder with internal focusing is derived.

ABSTRACT: The results of investigation show that the efficiency of ultrasonic
treatment of materials increases in perhydrol. Thus, the rate of machining glass
in perhydrol, beginning at a depth of 2 mm, is twice as great as in water. The
treatment of ceramics is twice as rapid and the Tl5K6 solid alloy approximately
2 1/2 times as rapid in perhydrol as in water. It is assumed that the rate of treat-
ment of material in perhydrol depends on the lower saturated vapor pressure of
perhydrol compared with water. L. Tikhonova. Orig. art. has: 2 figures and 2
