ABSTRACT: An in vitro method of serial dilutions was used to test the
activity of several synthetic azo-compounds in relation to
dermatophytes, some gram positive and gram negative bacteria and two
species of yeastlike molds. All the tested szo-compounds containing a
carboxylic group proved Inactive. The exception was 2,4-dichlor-3-
carboxY-4'-oxyazobanzol. The azo-compounds displayed highest activity
in relation to Cr. neoformans, weaker activity in relation to
dermatopbytes, and the weakest in relation to Candida albicans, On17

highest in vitro activity was displayed by 2,4-dichlor-[~'-methyl-4-

PURPOSE : This book is intended for technical personnel of Indus-
trial plants and scientific research institutes.
COVERAGE: The theoretical principle* of plastic deformation of
steels and the role of manufacturing-process factors in de-
formation are discussed. Methods of studying metal plasticity

at forging temperatures are described in detail along with
results of investigations of the plasticity of various steels
conducted by the authors under laboratory and shop conditions.
Also described is a method of statistical analysis of oro-
ceasing parameters applied to determine the cause of defects
caused by hot plastic deformation. The effect of the tempera-
tures at the beginning and at the end of deformation, the de-
gree of deformation, and test conditions on the structure and
properties of medium-weight and heavy forgings Is also ana-
lyzed. The following took part in the experimental studies:
